Fuel up/down again

Interestingly Brent Crude is now down almost $7 from its peak earlier this month. If that was to hold, we should see a halt to the rise - for now - or perhaps even a small reduction. Though thats a big if, I'd imagine world oil prices will continue upwards reasonably soon, coupled with the double blow of the pound getting weaker, especially in light of the news that the deputy governer of the Bank of England thinks negative interest rates are 'worth thinking about' which didn't really impress the forex markets..

V Power was 149.9

Only realised how much it was as the thingy clicked at 50 odd litres.

7p a litre cheaper for Tesco momentum 400 yards down the road.

Fuming.

Sterling vs dollar is down about 7c since the start of the month which will counter-balance much of the decrease in oil price... and don't forget the 3p tax rise in about 5 weeks time so any respite will be short-lived. As for negative interest rates being put forward as a proposal I'm not sure why this chap has publicised it as I honestly can't see it happening. The only thing I can think is as some sort of smokescreen to make other changes more accepted (perhaps a smaller drop in rates or some alternative monetary policy intervention).

Setting a negative base rate seems fraught with potential problems and could in some ways ironically cause businesses a headache in the short term if they have systems that are tied to this in terms of needing to ensure that it can even support such a situation reliably (remember what happened a few years ago with negative tracker mortgages for example when rates dropped to historic lows).

I still can't believe it was only 4 years ago (when I passed my test), that petrol was around 85p :D mental

Not anywhere down south it wasn't. I haven't seen prices like that since I started driving in 2003.

Edit: I retract the previous comment, apparently it was down that low 4 years ago. Shows how perceptions change your memory.

Think petrol is 139.9 at my local but I don't take much notice & just chuck me 40 quid in.

How much does Tractor fuel cost these days ?

Yeah definitely was, even Oxford way. If I remember it had been up to close to £1, but then dipped back down to around the mid 80s for a while, then that was it, increased from there

Is "premium" any better for the engine, does it run faster/cleaner/smoother or am I just throwing my money away at a brandname?

I've been using BP 'Ultimate' as you get extra Nectar point thingers.

Every time I drive past the local Sainsbury's (everyday) the price has gone up. This country is getting beyond a joke now. With people losing there jobs, increases in fuel and many other bills and so on how are people suppose to survive.

Running a car is really difficult these days, with tax, insurance, fuel, maintaining it, mot/services etc. It all adds up to a massive chunk of your salary.
