Ok, I'm having an argument in another thread so I thought I'd sdk somewhere with fewer meatheads; how long can you plank for?

Wow, it's all kicked off over there, huh? You're an idiot, apparently.

Yeah, I started down the path of weightlifting 5 or 6 years ago but the attitude of people (not necessarily on here) to newcomers was hugely off-putting. It's about as cliquey as it gets so predictably I lost interest rapidly.

That is really nice.

Is it same/similar to the Ribble R872?
Assume its from ebay (which seller if so) or from elsewhere?
Whats the score with the BB, i'd be thinking of Di2 or Campag Athena/Chorus...would it go straight in or would it need an adapter? (i'm clueless on BB's!!).
No its not a R872 (or derosa 838), but that is an open mould frame and you can buy it from china I think its know as a few different names, RB838 from carbonzone or I think also FM339 from gotobike.

This is actually a lighter frame, I don't think its actually available under a different guise yet, its quite new out. Its the FR-316 from here: http://www.flyxii.com/products.asp, but yes it did come from ebay, all the carbon frame sellers on ebay are this website.

Bottom brackets (someone may need to correct me on this). They're two main types BB30 and bsa 68 (english and italian).

Shimano only make bsa 68 BB's but you can get 3rd party adapters for bb30 frames.

SRAM make GXP BB's which fit bsa 68 frames and they also make bb30, their cranks are also specific to which bb you use.

Campag, again I think use both types of cups.

BB30 will actually give you a tiny bit of weight saving but its a bit less common so I normal get bsa 68 frames for compatibility reasons.

oh ok, i was just reading it on the TdF website

It's a bit confusing because it's organised by the same company who do the TdF (ASO) and they use the www.letour.fr website for all their races.
ASO also organise another 15-16 other races as well (click 'other events' at the bottom of the page if you want to see them all).
They are all individual races in their own right though.

Worth watching the races though if you get chance- Paris-Nice, the Dauphine, Tour de Suisse and Tour de Romandie can all be good to watch. People are willing to take a few more chances with less on the line.

Then the one day classics are coming up soon and they are awesome- Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and a few others. You always get a few heroic performances in there.

Hope your back improves, seems a bit of a bummer at this stage of the year! Try and get some physio through your GP.

Looking good, what are you going to build it up w/?
Nothing special I'm affraid.

Even though this frame is lighter than my nice bike (which is all sram red now) I'm sticking with that frame as its more aero, this will be my new commuter.

Probably going to get killed for this but is going get everything transfered from my flatbar commuter, inc the flatbar ;-p

Its a real franken bike, complete mix of sram and shimano.

Shifters - flatbar Sram double taps.
Front mech - Ultegra 6700
Rear mech - Sram rival
Crank - Ultegra 6700
Shimano brake levers with SRAM force callipers :-D
Ultegra cassette - KMC SL chain

Got those light (1390g) hand built alloy clinchers on it too which I posted up before.

I quite like having a complete mix, SRAM can't make front mechs so nice to have a shimano one plus it totally messes with my OCD biking work mates too!

she said no to physsio at the moment, i had physio a long time ago for the same problem (but it was worse though)

You know, we were just joking today about how if you put Shimano on an Italian frame, the frame will reject the parts in disgust, the metals will oxidise and you'll have to start over. With your existing mix of SRAM and Shimano, I bet you could make the bike spontaneously combust if you put on, say, some Campagnolo brake calipers.

Most races are on eurosport which you can stream live for a few £ a month.
I used to do that before i got sky, it's definitely worth it for the one day classics

Right then, a question of eating. It's my birthday on Monday, and I've treated myself to a day off so I can attempt a metric century. I'll be starting about 9:30, so I'll be breaking for lunch probably about 2/3 of the way through the ride.

So, my question... If I eat a fry up for lunch, am I going to die on the back 1/3 of the ride?

How are those clinchers going for you now you've had some time with them?

New bike at present is:

Scott CR1 Comp frame
SRAM Rival shifters
SRAM Rival rear
SRAM Force front

Looking to add:

SRAM Force/Red chainset (haven't decided on whether to go compact with a 12-25 or standard with a 12-28)
Planet X Ultralight Brakes
Chinese clinchers

Not decided on finishing kit yet but will get some pics up once it's done. Based on my rough calculations it should weigh south of 7kg (mainly due to the wheels).

I've got a Shimano chainset in an otherwise Campagnolo groupset. I'm a risk taker. :p

A fry up for lunch will probably be fine assuming you're riding at a steady pace so take it easy and treat yourself.

42 miler with some good hills, not too bad but my timings all over the place as I dropped into the gf's parents for a drink and a chat.

Went up the worst hill on the Shropshire Devil, killed me but only just, so those new gears should get me up fine. :)

Jesus christ tho, I had gin and a pint of rose win (ran out of alcohol) last night, hungover bike rides ftl!

I'm no expert, but if it was me I'd keep the lunch light but eat lots along the way, I tend to have a little something every 15 miles or so. Save the fry up for when you're back home, it'll taste 10x better knowing you haven't got 30 mile to ride! Just imo.:)

I've ridden 16 miles every working day though the mean city streets of Bristol since I got them, and they have been perfect. Even bunny hopped off a few curbs etc and still as true as when they were bought.

Btw I use the planet X CNC ultralight brakes on my nice bike, unbelievably light but they're a complete arse to setup properly, infact I just can't get he rear to stay perfect and you just can't beat dual pivot for pure stopping power. I personally wouldn't recommend them but YMMV.

I nearly did just that, I had a good deal on some compag callipers and would love to stick them on apart from they have the release built into the shifter which would make them a real pain... I'm still tempted though :-D
