*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

that's the OTG cable I mentioned above!!

Not used it myself!

You could always re-encode the 8Gb files especially for the Nex7... not sure you'd notice the difference between 1080p and 720p or a little less on a 7" 1280x800 screen!...

Yes i was thinking of combining one of those cables with a micro-sd usb card reader.

The real reason google don't add micro sd slot is because that is how they monetize the different models. If they add a card slot everyone will just buy the 16gb version and add a 64gb card in. They should realy look at finding a better solution to monetize different models because cloud storage is a joke.

I've easily filled by 32GB N10 so I'd go for the 32GB option if I was you. I'd find 16GB very limiting.

I could save a lot of space by having no local music on the device (I've got my entire catalogue in the cloud on Google Play but I've got my fave stuff local just in case) but unless Google will start letting me upload DVD's\blu-rays to the cloud as well I don't see how it's going to work. For music it makes sense though.

Just get yourself the 16gb version, an OTG cable. Then download "Nexus Media Importer" from Play store, no need to root :)

I use "MX player" to play 8gb HD files from my 500gb HDD on my Nexus 7

How do you play such large files? I thought the hdd had to be formatted in FAT32? I am using a 32GB with OTG, Nexus Media Importer and a 1.5TB Toshiba Stor.E portable which spins up just fine over USB. Just didn't think it would play large than 4GB.

It will work with ntfs, people have it at fat32 so you can get read and write access via stickmount (rooted).

like a03dugga says, NTFS works fine for streaming via Nexus Media Importer. Not all drives work with the Nexus though, but I have the same drive as you only smaller :( and it works fine :)

I just bought a nexus 7 32gb from curries for 199. I was going to see if i could get a cheap one from ebay, been watching for a few weeks but most of them go for 180+ anyway.

Curries offered me insurance for £50 a year, what is the manufacture warranty like? I don't normally opt for insurance, but my first tablet device and was wondering if people opted for similar insurance and if through using your nexus 7 you think it may be a good idea to get something like that.

All DSG employees make most of their commission by pushing pretty useless warranties onto unsuspecting customers.

Without knowing what the warranty covers, or claims to cover, I can't comment specifically but as long as you treat your devices with common sense and care then I don't see the point in paying £50. After all if it fails then Asus will repair/replace it for you anyway.
