*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

I tend to go with my Converse.

That said, if I do BSS I always take them off. I find it better for some reason. I'll occasionally DL barefoot as well, but not so often.

Routine I'm doing is pretty much this

AxBxAxx

A
Squat 3x5
Bench 3x5
Rows 3x5
Weighted chinups 2x8
Tricep extensions 2x8

B
OHP 3x5
Deadlifts 1x5
Weighted pullups 2x6
Bicep curls 2x8

Anything majorly wrong with it? I'm also thinking of thinking of doing a three day split very soon.

Chest/tris (bench day)
rest
Back/Bis (Deadlift day)
rest
Shoulders/legs (Squat and OHP day)
rest
rest

Any thought on that?

If I only had 2 days to train i would do:

Day1
Squats
Chins
Push press

Day2
Deads
Dips

No messing about, do those and do them hard. Simple :)

surely you would add in some type of BP also, before dips. Well..i would anyway:)

no actually..would do sqts, chins, bench...then deads, dips, OHP

Just purchased some KSO Vibrams, as my running shoes are making it awkward to Squat and Deadlift.

Nope, would leave bench if was time restricted. dips would give so much more.
I don't think anyone needs to bench, for a lot it is more pain than pleasure :)

I'd agree with BB bench as that can cause people issues. But DB bench? Why would you not do it?

Granted doing what you do (strongman type stuff) I'm guessing flat bench work rarely comes in to play?

Dips > db bench too tbh.

Seems like a lot of cash! Just nip into your local sports shop and pick a cheap pair up if they're only going to be used for the odd bit of cardio in the gym then taken off for any proper lifting.

I want something comfy, I had a look in sportsdirect the other day and the amount of crap they sell is unreal. lol

Skillmister what shoes do you use?

Nike Factory Outlet guys a is a good shout, always get decent shoes in there between 15 - 35 quid.

interesting thought..i always thought bench would be superior to dips...no reasoning behind it though:o

Can't seem to find the diet/nutrition thread? certain that there was one?

Looking at the changes necessary for my diet in about two months when I trim up a bit. The last time I did anything properly it was based around a ketosis style diet & carb cycling. Keeping carbs low with protein & fats high. Is this still advisable or has 'the norm' changed since 3- 4 years ago?

My carbs generally tend to be around the 150-200g mark dependent on the evening meal, around 100g of fat and between 180-200g protein. Between 2200-2700 calories on average.

I guess what I could really do with are some predetermined diets covering a range of different macro breakdowns so I can see how I would need to address my diet to acheive something similar. If anyone has a link to any I'd be very grateful!
