Brilliant cake! Happy birthday :)

ETA: I came on here to mention another sufferfest - second this week. Still struggling on this new FTP and I don't think the wine from last night helped:

Tip for anyone with a garmin soft strap HR monitor - you can swap the strap for a polar soft strap and use the garmin connector, it's miles more accurate and doesn't have problems with synthetic clothing like the gramin seems to!

To whoever recommended that BBB torque wrench, cheers, I picked one up. Of course all I used it for was to check the bolts on my stem and go "yep, they're overtorqued", make no adjustments whatsoever and then stick it in with my other tools where it'll stay indefinitely.

I had to have such an invaluable tool right now though...[/buyersremorse]

You going to put real pedals on it, or stick with flats?

I dunno, i like simplicity in my commute and im not sure what id gain for a 6mi commute by switching to clipless? Slightly better performance when wet but more faffing when pulling away from lights? My rose flats were 40 quid and are lighter than most clipless pedals in the same price range so i might as well use them.

Stupid question time

I want a pair of these for my new hybrid - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-M...075&pid=100033&prg=1011&rk=1&sd=280947865067& which are the same ones I've got on my road bike.

I'm a bit concerned with the bit about 'without cleats'.
Does this mean the silver bits aren't on the pedals or does it mean it doesn't come with the cleats that fit to shoes?

Just seen Shamrocks post above.
I rode my hybrid for 2 days before I had to take my pedals off my road bike, no way could I ride on flats.

It means the cleats that bolt to the bottom of your shoes.
So, you should be ok if you already have the same pedals on another bike.

For that use case, yeah, flats makes sense.

Looks nice btw!

Completely buckled (beyond repair) an aksium rear wheel today. Front has also seen better days so looking for a cheapo wheelset replacement. Anyone seen anything better value than these:

Only thing I've seen that would tempt me is a set of used 2012 HED Ardennes that finish at lunchtime tomorrow on eBay. Not massively practical but don't say you aren't tempted.

Edit; dunno where that smiley came from.

@Asprilla w/ 20 hours to go they'll probably finish quite a bit higher than the current price though :(

@grudas any idea what they weigh?

edit: nvm they're £172 for the set. The R501's are £73

Ok, quick question for those of you more knowledgeable on bike maintenance than i.

Recently took the cassette off my bike to clean it. Used a chain whip and the correct cassette lock ring remover, got it off no problem, cleaned it up, stuck it back on.

Now, cut today and i take the bike out for a ride. I'm finding that any time i stop pedaling and freewheel for a bit, when i next try to engage the pedals it's like the cassette doesn't catch for a bit. The pedals just spin for a few rotations without the cassette engaging, then suddenly it'll catch and everything will be fine again.

I'm pretty sure i've made some stupid schoolboy error here. So what have i done wrong? Have i just not attached the cassette tightly enough?

How far did you strip it down?
So that it looks like this?

If you only took the cassette off and didnt remove the freehub (same as the image above) then you wont have broken the freewheel, so it's most likely to be out of alignment. Check that you put all of the spacers back on and in the correct order.
