When did you leave home?

Has anyone here moved out on minimum wage jobs in todays market or over the last few years, if so how on earth did you do it:p

Depends on the area of the country your in - it would be about doable here in Somerset at the moment if you were on full time hours, more doable if your sharing.

I 'properly' moved out at the age of 22 into my own place (inherited). I'll be going to University in September for two years aged 24.

I left just after I'd turned 27 to undertake a 3 year (well, 2 year 9 month) training course in January 2011, and I'll probably go back home when I qualify just before or after I turn 30, which is a bit of a depressing thought.

In my line of work, I'll be away 4 out of 6 months on a ship,so it doesn't make sense to either rent or buy a place for myself that'll just stand empty 2/3rd's of the year. I plan on buying a buy-to-let property just so I can get some solid assets however.

Tried to move out, local building project is building tonnes of new flats, when I enquired about renting/buying they said it was a social housing project, Mainly for single low income parents, rehabilitating substance abusers and sufferers of extreme domestic violence, she forgot to mention asylum seekers with 8 children too. Fair enough.

Ill just stay at home with parents working full time on minimum wage not claiming benefits for now.

When I was 18 to move in with my 25year old GF.
We got married before I turned 19 and our marriage lasted about 12 years.
still good friends with her

Waiting lists for council and social housing will be massive unless you have stuff wrong with you and you will constantly have people bumping you back down the list

I was 17 when I left home. I did move back there for a little while a few years ago but love my own place. I always call my parents house home because it just is that.

Sometimes I'm tempted to move back for the easy life lol

No shame in living with your parents imo, you will miss them when they are gone so why not make the most of them whilst they are still alive

Partially moved out when I went to uni at 18. Moved into rented accommodation with a friend at 22; bought my own place at 25.

Left home at 18 for 3 years of Uni, wasn't permanent and was back for 4 months of each year. Moved back home when graduated and lived at home for a year or so when I moved in with my brother for 6 months, then decided I'd had enough of the country and did a spot of travelling for 4 months. Came home again and have lived there until last Aug when me and the Mrs decided to rent somewhere - may shortly have to return home if she gets a job down in Nottingham as I don't want to rent on my own and would rather save the coin living at home!
