The Falklands thread

Just browsing when I came across this beauty

Entertaining but ultimately quite worrying...

wow.

Wow watched 12 minutes and then my ears started to bleed. Normally at least you get two people on a show that will debate each side from each view point. Those two people where completely one sided and are basing nearly all the facts it seems on 1800s Britain..... watch out the red coats are coming. I think given all the places that have been given back and the reduced size of the "empire" most of the comments were just stupid but maybe im being one sided :p

Where is sharpe when we need him :D

wow.

It's embarrassing to watch. Especially the woman. What planet is she from. It's intresting to see how properganda works from the other side.

Personally i think they whole issue should just be ignored. The referendum was a mistake.

I think we should let the Argentinians have the Falklands but not until after Russia releases Kaliningrad Oblast to Poland or Lithuania and the US gives up Hawaii and the Panama Canal, Spain the Canary Islands, ... need I go on.

Obviously, all non-indigenous Argentine would then move onto the islands and give the land back to the natives too.

Surely Kaliningrad Oblast should be released to Germany?

It won't come to a war, Argentina knows better than that. It seems its in for the long haul, a battle for political support from around the world rather than military confict which it knows it can't win.

Its also part of its wider territorial ambitions, most of British Antarctic Territory is also directly claimed by Argentina, their claim directly lies over the top of ours. They've even establised a permanent base there, more for political than scientific reasons one suspects.

The new pope is Argentinian. What's the betting the new reason the Falklands should be handed over is 'cos god says so?

Your looking at it wrong, Kirchner is going to demand that Italy* gives Vatican city to Argentina due to the temporary Argentinian population :P

*I know its not Italian, but I doubt she does :P

Looking at Google info on Argentina's military, it doesn't seem to have come on much since 1982. The best fighter aircraft they seem to have is a Mirage III which is a 1950s design as is the uprated A4s they use. I can't see them giving Typhoons and Tyoe 45s any real problems.

They have a sub force of three German built diesel electrics built in the 1980s. Would they give Astute class subs any problems, assuming they could locate them ?

We won't win this argument internationally, we have historically ****ed off far too many of them.

I also think situations like this should act as a warning post against future imperialism.

There is only so much sarcasm a domestic meter can measure before it goes pop, sorry.:(

care of the sun so take with a pinch of salt.

He was part of a group of Catholic bishops who tried to persuade the Vatican to make the Falklands part of an Argentinian diocese.
Then in 2011, the day before the anniversary of the start of the Falklands War, he was at a mental hospital washing the feet of patients when he was asked about the conflict.

He urged people “not to forget those who had fallen during the war” as they had “shed their blood on Argentine soil”.
Echoing president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, he told reporters: “The Malvinas are ours. Respect for those who gave their lives must not be lost. This is our land. The Falklands are Argentine.”

We don't have to "win" anything. We are not looking to change anything or convince anyone to do anything different.

They do have the advantage of being able to go entirely silent, which a SSN can never do.

Once they need to move though, they loose that advantage. Which is probably the only one they have.
