BONKERS!

might be about time to upgrade my sound, don't have a sound card either...

I'll admit to knowing NOTHING about audio set ups, but i guess i cant go wrong upgrading from some 10 year old free dell speakers.

These speakers in my opinion and of many others are the best 2.0 you can buy sub £80.. they even better many at a higher cost and at just £49.99inc are an absolute bargain! :D

In terms of music clarity and general quality it would certainly be an upgrade for music and films and media etc.. as for games, its swings and round abouts really. better sound, but no pin point action from the benefit of 5.1.

Very tempting. I have an ageing set of Inspire 5.1s (over 10 years old). Done me proud but the surround sound never seems to work with my music and I don't game all that often.

Some 'questions'......

  • Will these plug straight into my onboard sound (Asrock Z77)?
  • Has any one switched from a pair of e.g. 2.1s to these? Did you miss the bass?
  • What is a good sound card to go with this (£30-£70)?
  • What plug comes with them? Some user reviews suggest it comes with a European power plug?

Thank :)

It'll be a hell of an upgrade from that.

They'll beat absolutely anything at the £80 price point, never mind £50. I found that they weren't as good as my 2.0 setup of Wharfdale 9.1s on an Onkyo 301... but they sure as hell didn't sound like 1/5th of the price.

The only reasons not to buy this:
1) You don't have £50
2) You're not an audiophile (they're very good for £80 or £50, but they're not THAT good)
3) You want surround sound
4) You're happy with your speakers and don't think you want to spend £50 to improve them.

How would these compare to a 10 year old 2.1 creative set running on a dgx?

Less bass overall, but better quality and more "punchy" bass rather than a dull background thud. Reasonably better mid-range and top end, although not hugely significantly. Better volume, and the volume will be less about loud bass and with a lower risk of "crackly" higher pitches or distortion.

Overall, a fair amount better for music, about the same or slightly better for gaming, probably slightly worse for movie watching (where you want dull, hard bass for ambience, rather than punchy, clean bass which you'd prefer for music, or precise thuds you'd want for gaming). Although if you like clean audio in your films, rather than lots of bass, these would win there too. (Note: Your mileage may vary, I don't know which creative set you have - this is for all the ones I've seen/experienced, however)
