Rubber queens are rubbish in mud anyway, if you can get Hans Dampfs in 29 (think I've seen them on bike-discount.de) they'll be good all rounders providing you want to have fun and not race xc :P

Nah, my Queens have been great in the Welsh mud/slop.

Not near as good as dedicated mud tyres mind you but nowt wrong with them.

hmmm

bad news for swinners

"A single direction cycle trail loop in Swinley Forest starting and finishing at The Look Out Discovery Centre has been put together now and together with the fire roads will be the only trail available to cyclists from April. We understand that all the other single track trails through the Forest will be stopped up, blocked or grubbed up, as cycling on these routes will no longer be allowed. Forest rangers will be patrolling the Forest to ensure that cyclists keep to the new marked trails at all times."

What is a good Alternative to the rockrider 8.1?

due to me being right slap bang in the middle of medium and large frames (some fit me in large and some in medium) I really would like to test the bike out before I commit to £500-600 odd. Warrington is my closest, but wont be stocking it for quite a few weeks.

I can go a little over due to my superb haggling skills, so £700 bikes would be awesome to recommend.

I'm quite liking the GT Avalanche 1.0, If I could get it for around £620 I'd be happy, though if all else fails I'll probably end up ordering the RR.

I'm absolutely obsessed when I buy new things, I wish I could just go into a shop and just buy one :D

The "DH zone" is where Baby Maker, Labyrinth and Deer Hunter are, the Freeride Zone is the current "Gulley", Tank Traps is also included in the red loop.

So it's all good.

I have fitted a set of 2012 Lyriks to the Mega (Mission Control unit also fitted as they were Lyrik R's) It's now looking pretty sweet.
Tapered steerer though, so I needed a new lower headset assembly.

I'll hopefully get it dialled in this weekend, but I'm going to do a lower Oil + seal change first

I'm just looking for some grippier 29er tyres than my rapid rob, and I've just seen the Rubber Queens on offer at on one for 16.49 each, so I'm tempted with them. Any opinions on them? What is their rolling resistance like?

Your Kwela come with Rapid Robs? Mine came with Rocket Rons, strange, lol!

I'm in need of something a little more grippy too, as I did very badly in the snow at the Forest of Ae last weekend, came off twice, once due to underestimation of a hump which resulted in me going over the handlebars, and once due to absolute lack of grip! :(

Very tempted by the HD's from Bikediscount too, decisions, decisions! :D

Edit: Or possibly the Smorgasboard Trail Extreme from On One - http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TYOOSM29X225/on_one_smorgasbord_29x225_tyre

This is going to sound a bit silly, but if I go into a LBS and try a 18" Hardtail, say a Trek. and buy an 18" cube, will it be more or less the same? or do different brands size differently.

Will possibly be slightly different, plus you'll have different geometry, length stem/handlebars etc etc

Turns out I don't have Rapid Robs (no idea where I got that from!), but I in fact have Rocket Rons like you. I'm going to order the HD's I think over the weekend, there has been so many good things said about them, I guess it would be silly not to give them a go.

Also aren't the Smorgasbord basically High Rollers? I had High Rollers on my bikes before, and I wasn't that keen on them tbh, preferred the Nobby Nics I'd had before them.

From what I can gather, they're built up on the Maxxis High Roller carcass with On One's own tread pattern, but I stand to be corrected.

Decent review here, I'll probably end up buying a set of Smorgasboard AND Hans Dampf, lol - http://bikemagic.com/gear/on-one-smorgasbord-tyre-review.html
