Non traditional board games

As mentioned earlier I am enjoying Zombies!!! even if the premise is a little simplistic. Good fun and loads of expansions. Needs a lot of space. A LOT of space! :p

Fluxx is fun too if you like card games that can get stupid in a hurry! :)

Need to get Munchkin Quest one of these days.

It's OK. Although I don't think it adds much to Munchkin though.

Any board games worth playing with only 2 players?

Loads. Mage Wars being a very good two player game, for example.

SO many Games I want to buy now...

Ticket to ride (is Europe edition good?)
Pandemic 2013
Alhambra
Carcassonne
Settlers of Catan

Ticket to Ride Europe is the easiest version of Ticket to Ride to get into.

I'd look at getting Lords of Waterdeep, Cosmic Encounter and Dominion too.

This thread has inspired me :)

Purchased Stoner Fluxx and playing with the wife tonight

Next is TTR Europe + Europa 1912 expansion + India/Switzerland Map Collection (seems to cover 2 - 5 players well)

Then Carcossonne Big Box 4 (2012) (seems like a great 2 player game)

Just amazed how expensive they are - the 2 games above are around £100 :(

What sites do you guys go to for board games? Is there a secret one I'm not finding in my googling?

Table Top has got me well excited

Axis & Allies, great WW2 strategy game. Good with 2 players, best with 5.

Diplomacy deserves a mention. Very simple game play and great fun with plenty of backstabbing. Needs 5 players to get the most out of it

Has anyone tried Star Munchkin?

Yeah, it's the version of Munchkin I own (each of us has a different version)

Yeah, good fun. The weapon-combining mechanic is interesting but sometimes leaves one player with the ultimate unstoppable game-winning death ray.

Yeah but that makes it fun. It is Munchkin, after all!

Boardgameguru.co.uk

EDIT: Some games are only £20-25 though. Some are £80. They provide a lot of value for money though, as long as they get played. :D

I use iguk.co.uk a bit, they also sell though Amazon although generally the prices are cheaper direct on the website.

Bought Munchkin Deluxe through them a while back, and just ordered Ticket To Ride: Europe, both times they were the cheapest prices (once shipping is included) I could find :)

GamesLore

Prices are good, my (only) order was despatched & delivered very quickly, and they responded to my emails quickly and seemed very friendly.

Order 90% of my games through these guys. Great service, lightning fast shipping, and they're a friendly bunch. Went to one of their game days in Telford and after an admittedly rocky start (due to me generally being an antisocial weirdo) the wife and I ended up joining a group of folks for a fun game of something we never would have even looked at (even though it did run about two hours longer than we had intended to stay!).

I'll generally spend a while browsing the site and line up a few potential new games, then check them out on Boardgamegeek or The Dice Tower on YouTube.

In fact... there's a point. Anyone interested in board games watch THE DICE TOWER on YouTube! Tom Vasel gives very good reviews and overviews, even if his "Jonathan Woss" syndrome is one of those "hear it and you can't un-hear it" factors. :D

Boardgameguru for me. They were set up and are run by one of the guys at the London on Board meetups! He saw that there was a market, and now makes a living from it!

As for people requesting games, I wholeheartedly recommend Galaxy Trucker Anniversary edition! (If you can find it, I think they are doing a second printing of it soon)

In galaxy trucker, you have a ship:

And you have a pile of components:

Someone says go, flip the timer over, and you have to grab a component from the middle of the table, look at it, and either attach it to your ship, or put it back on the table face up, so anyone can see and take it. Eventually you either finish your ship or the time runs out, then you have to fly it around facing enemies taken from a deck of cards (there's something like 30 cards per round deck, you use 8 cards from each round deck each game, so there's enough that there's a good variety. And then you hopefully make money, or at the very least survive. At which point you do it again with a bigger ship!

Galaxy Trucker looks insanely fun. :)

Aaaaaargh, the itch! THE ITCH!

It is insanely fun. Played the base game once then went out and bought the anniversary edition. Comes with the base game, the 2 expansions, plus a couple of mini and freely available online expansions, and all in a big box to hold everything. Its amazing :D

Wow, that does look fun.
Sadly most of the people I know here are more into fantasy than Sci Fi, I seem to be by myself

Just played Stoner Fluxx with the wife (except with red wine) as an introduction to the games mentioned in this thread - was loads of fun :)

Now need pizza

She has agreed to get TTR and Carcassonne so result!!!

Great success :D

How many people will you be playing TTR with? If its just the two of you, consider one of the smaller maps designed for 2 players. The larger ones like Europe and the original US map are better with 4 or 5 players, with just 2 or 3 they get a little cramped.

I know! I'm well stoked :)

Check my post #186 ;)
