How about just going for the defensive aspect for a change?

But it's heavy, saps your strength and speed and could make you barely quicker than a zombie.

Of course there are variations of plate armour which allow a much wider ranger of movement but offer less protection overall.

Isn't that what the black dude was wearing a couple of episodes ago?
The problem I see here is that if too many Zombies come you will easily get overpowered and wearing a plate armour suit you might not be able to ever get up again because more & more Zombies will pile on.

I disagree, a decent wooden bat will stand the test of time better than an aluminium bat.

I'm going with claw hammer anyway, small, lightweight, dual purpose.

How about weapons from WoW? I've not played it for a few years now, but back in my days, it was all about tier 2 and fire resist with BWL on farm.

Definitely a melee weapon (sword or bat), nothing that requires ammo that isn't reusable. Crossbow would be my ranged choice.

As a keyboard warrior I'm far too lazy (unfit) for seriously long swordfights, but some sort of sharpened edges to the bow would be great in case I need to do hand to hand combat

Maybe a baseball bat, a maul or a mace. Flail is a possibility but the chain may snap which would render it useless.

Taking something that requires ammo, uses any type of motor or is sharp is too risky.

If fuel is not in abundance then maybe just a power sword
