*** The Official Microsoft Surface Pro Thread ***

Thanks for the additional keyboard info.

Waiting to see if the supplier gets stock today. They said either today or thursday was likely, very keen to get my hands on them now.

I have the surface pro and both type and touch covers, the pro was imported the same week it came out in the US. I love it. I use it like a tablet but as its a whole PC I can do everything.

I keep the touch cover attached all the time as a cover and in case I do want to do some light typing but if I wanted to do proper work I'd use the type cover. It is like using a proper keyboard and very good, it just makes the surface a tiny bit thicker than I would like for normal everyday use.

whats the battery life like?

What concerns me about the long, drawn out process of these Surface launches globally is that by the time some countries can actually buy the things it's time for a new model.

You would have to say that Surface buyers are towards the enthusiast end of the market and those are exactly the sort of folk who know what's in the pipeline.

I wouldn't recommend either Surface to anybody at this point in time. I'd say wait.

Not everybody can play the wait and see game or wishes to. We want machines which can function as tablets but can run full office and other windows programmes, we need them ASAP. Under that scenario I don't see what else you could reasonably recommend (other than a similar Win 8 solution with more or less the same spec, like the samsung).

Haswell is around the corner so i expect this late summer we can see surface pro 2 with Haswell

I'm aware of that. My point being I'm a business buyer (as well as a geek) who needs the functionality now, not at some undefined point in the future. The guy said 'wouldn't recommend to anyone' and I was pointing out there are different circumstances.

definetly and if u are not gaming on this then the current specs are perfectly fine mate.

Haswell with benefit mainly pc gamers.

Can't find a source for this so it may well have changed, but pretty sure I heard on the AnandTech podcast a few months ago that Haswell will be a staggered launch, with the normal voltage stuff out in Q2, ULV (15W) out in Q3 and ULX (10W, i.e. what Surface Pro 2 will probably use) out in Q4. Add in some leeway for manufacturing difficulties, pre-launch stockpiling, etc. and it's unlikely we'll have Haswell tablets out this year, maybe November/December at the earliest.

It depends on the types of programs you wish to run.

You have to admit, that is a pretty niche requirement to need a batch of Surface Pro units right now to deploy without significant testing.

I'm not saying it isn't fit for purpose, but I'd still have a hard time recommending it to the majority of people looking for a do-it-all tablet who want to get the most for their money.

Waiting on an AMD answer to Clovertrail is going to kill me I swear to God.

I can't go for Clovertrail due to the IGP blowing chunks, I'm sure the Dell XPS 10's GPU will be better >.<

Do we think we'll get the Pro in the UK before the 2 is announced?

Anyone's guess, still a total shambles.
I've given up and got myself a laptop, will wait for haswell and hopefully some better suited hardware.

It feels like ms have just given up, they have another chance when they release Blue, will hey do it right or not. I really hope so. It's an amazing OS and the Eco system could be fantastic everything's there. They just need top notch hardware, in all the shops and priced to sale. To get marketshare which will solve the last few who are resisting making apps. Even BBC has gone back on their word and are now making one. Albeit the same cut down version same as android one.

I've got an RT and don't need either, if the Pro was out already I'd have one but if its any longer i won't bother...

Had dinner with a friend who works in sales at Microsoft last night (major corporate stuff so not particularly detailed knowledge of these) and said imminent, which is vague but encouraging I guess.

Well they are here. So far very impressed with the build quality, finish seems excellent.

Haven't got the keyboards yet.

Liking the pen. The screen is excellent. All seems very nippy.

Really nice and usable so far, with office running very well as it should. Haven't installed much else yet other than apps.

Xbox music working with my zune pass which was totally unworkable in anyway on my transformer. This is the product the transformer wanted to be (or I wanted it to be!).

Imminent means nothing given the updates we've had from the MS site.
Realistically I need to get one by the end of the month or I wont bother, I'll stick with my RT until something Haswell based is out either from MS themselves or someone else, dont get me wrong I think the Surface is the best device as of yet but if they cant get me one then someone else will, well, someone other than Samsung.

Are they waiting for all of the interest in the product to dissolve before the pro comes to the UK?

Feels like it.
