Mobile NFC payments?

Do any apps exist on Android for mobile NFC payments? Just watched Gadget Man and saw the Visa PayWave app which doesn't seem to exist past closed testing on SIM cards.

The technology is here and I regularly pay for things using both my personal and business contactless cards, but I wish I could do it from my phone!

I think Orange/EE started one this year for the UK, not many other options I know of. I'm waiting for Google Wallet payments to become available in the UK, convinced this will be the future.

It's not available in the UK, but I understand in the US it does work with Nexus devices. I have the Galaxy Nexus. Problem is, nowhere in UK accepts it and we haven't really adopted this as a common payment method yet. Until that happens and one gathers momentum (most likely with backing from the banks), we'll have to wait and see.

EDIT: This is available now, not quite what you're asking for though.

Quite a few places do - McDonalds, Greggs - even at QPR football ground you can buy food and drink with NFC (and that includes Google wallet on an Android phone or tablet if you can get it topped up in the UK).

My local post office has contactless PIN machines, as do most of the large American fast food chains (McDonalds especially). But yeah, it seems odd for a technology so readily available on a consumer-level isn't as developed on the commercial side.

How did you get Wallet? I downloaded the APK from xda and it just does't open (not compatible).

There was a modifed apk on Modaco - I think they've stopped it from working now but it's worth checking. My new First Direct debit card has NFC so I use that instead until a decent mobile solution appears. I have a McDonalds and Greggs next to my work so it makes it all too easy to eat bad food. ;)

Problem with Google Wallet is although you can get the MoDaCo hacked version installed, Google discontinued their pre- paid card, do toy can't actually use it anymore.

Google Wallet was supposed to be released over here in time to be used during the Olympics, but for some reason it didn't happen.

London's TFL buses have started accepting them too now. Looking forward to Google releasing their wallet!

I'm guessing the main reason for the slow uptake on this is simply because banks won't believe that usage by Joe Public will be enough to warrant the cost of said technology.

Does seem a little daft that NFC on the whole is moving slowly despite the tech being available in most high-end phones these days.

Banks are at fault too. Barclays have contactless debit cards so why don't the others?

LloydsTSB have them. I've had one since last summer. Its very handy for McDs purchases and now Wetherspoon pubs and many outlets in some Train Stations.

Shame that the mobile NFC payments hasn't taken off in the UK.

So does HSBC, got my new debit card the other week and it's a Contactless Visa one. Haven't had the chance to try it yet though, I keep eyeing-up the chip & PIN pads every time I go to pay for something to see if it's NFC-enabled but not found one yet.

Quite interesting to scan the card with an NFC Info app to see what information can be read from it.

They pretty much all do, had my HSBC (First Direct) one for nearly a year now. Same for the two credit cards I have. Are you confusing contactless payments with Barclays 'Pingit'?

A lot of banks are rolling them out slowly, but if you call up you can get one sooner.

Natwest offered them for London branch customers, but you can call up and request one.
HSBC are rolling them out to everyone whne your card expires, but again you can call up.

And if you're really desperate you can get the Amazon Credit Card which is contactless and has 1% cashback in Amazon vouchers.
