Forgot how bad job searching was :(

This wait is killing me. Had my interview Friday afternoon with a fairly big company (one of the largest in Europe), and I'm wondering what the average wait is to hear back? I've got another interview on Wednesday but the one I'm waiting for may well swing my decision if I'm offered anything.

I may phone tomorrow and explain the situation.

Which company? Large enough for dedicated HR for applications?

I went through the process at the start of this year (final year PhD, funding runs dry in September) and had an interview for a dream job at one of the world's largest companies in my field (Chemical Engineering). Interview went very well (very long - 2+1/2 hours, and then I gave a 1 hr presentation on my research) but I didn't hear back for 3 weeks. Called the hiring manager and it turned out that he told HR to put me through to the assessment centre the next day, but they had forgotten to do so :p Had the assessment centre the next week and got the position, so looking forward to finishing up (not looking so forward to finalising the thesis!) and moving to pastures green.

Wish that was in London, would be perfect and I have loads of experience to match.

Currently working 2 jobs, 1 in a sports centre and 1 in Sainsburys till I find something better and more long-term. Got interview with Ladbrokes and a telephone interview with William Hill next week, hopefully get one of those.

anything keeping you in London ? Edinburgh's a beautiful city. Much cheaper than London. And we have the festival....

Congrats. What job/company is it out of interest? Chemical engineering as a field is quite large (as I'm sure you know).

Sorry to hear that Devrij :(

I'm not out of work, but I'm almost certainly going to be looking again....I want a career for once, not these random jobs I keep doing :( No idea where to start though.

Well, it turns out I managed to TUPE out to the MEN centre doing the same job, which is actually easier to get to than my Leeds office, so all is not lost.

Somehow I doubt my new colleagues will be as awesome as my current ones, but hey-ho. Better than facing unemployment again.

All the best to anyone still looking. All the other guys in my office are in the same boat as me (although opting not to move to the Manchester office) and most of them are kicking the carp out of the agencies and getting interviews.

I'm on the hunt for a more challenging job than the one I currently have. I had a 3 hour assessment, and a 1/2 hour interview yesterday morning. Assessment went really well, but then I felt I crumbled a bit during the interview. Didn't help that I met a number of other candidates during the assessment who I thought were more qualified than myself. Still waiting to hear how I did...:(

I have a half hour phone interview with TalkTalk tonight - should be interesting. Not my dream job but the job that I am doing at the moment sucks.

Just been looking at candidate applications. Interesting stuff. All I will say is that people REALLY need to learn to tailor their supporting statements for the job they're applying for. Instant rejection reading some of those supporting statements. Make sure you tailor your statements! :p

So a couple of months ago I only had 1/2 a job...a PT casual thing when needed, not guaranteed only about 3-4 shifts a month but decent pay.

Even signed up to JSA for about 2.5 weeks as I didn't get any shifts and couldnt find anything else and well cash was lowwwwww.

Now including that I have 3 jobs lol...gonna have to leave Sainsbury's where I started 3 weeks ago...moving up slightly to Ladbrokes haha. Getting more and more shifts at the other place so just need to make sure it doesn't clash and it's all good!

For someone wanting to change careers, I mean completely change careers...How would you go about it? Are there places you can go to? People to speak to? Or any decent resources online?

I've basically been doing computer assembly and IT Support since I left school with the odd gap here and there, really want to get out of t now especially in my current job as there literally is no progression unless someone leaves....Might be wanting to get back in to my Art stuff as I used to enjoy doing that, it's just where to start? I could get a portfolio going but I'd still be where I am stuck in the same old rut :p

delvis the jobcentre of course, where else are you supposed to get help and advice. well thats what all the posters in them and the mp's say :P

honestly google and start working out what art stuff you want to do and google some more.

and yeah im still a jobless bum on the work program, but hopefully not much longer as the next apointment (whenever that is) if this silly bint i see now hasnt put me forward for both the job and the sia course she has told me about 8 and 3 weeks ago respectively il be asking to speak to the manager and area manager and making a right old stink.

Heh, indeed! :p

I just need to start spending 30 minutes in the evenings doing it or something, carry on with work here and see where it takes me. I think I need to start back with the basics, learn how to draw the human body again (proportionally) and work up in to digital work.

In an ideal world, I would find a low end apprentice Art job or something, somewhere I can get taught on the job, earn pittance and work my way up, I literally would love that.

or just perfect your own style and do something big and brash. get noticed or something.

seems to be the way with artistic stuff, you can be brilliant but unless your something new and different you end up as some desktop publisher or some such working hand to mouth.

I guess. I just hate being where I am at the moment and don't fancy being 30 / 40 and going "Oh" :(

well i want to at least have made something by the end of the year with the dslr. even if its only £20 but hopefully i can at least make something regularly locally so i dont have to work a 9-5 for tools or put up with things like the work program much longer.

Was with EDF, but was unsuccessful (not enough experience, though none was needed).

I have however been offered a job with an aerospace company in their materials testing labs! Which I've accepted.

:D
