The snip?!

Semen still comes out but should no longer contain sperm. The vesicle that produces semen is on the penis side of the vasectomy so is unaffected.

Went to the doctor last week to be told that he was referring me to see a urologist and it would be highly likely that I would need a cystoscopy. I made the mistake of going home and doing some research. Suffice to say I am now scared ****less and have no doubt that "the little fella" will shrivel up and try to hide.

Ah mate i feel for you :( I'd much rather the snip than the above lol, good luck :)

You still have stuff come out its just got no actuall sperm in it, seminal fluid i think its called.

the worst bit has to be the smell from the cauterization.... i remember asking for the fan to be turned on.....

Then there is the walking around with a hole in your sack until it heals..... supposedly they cant sew it up! Oh an once its done they cant give you any painkillers i had to walk to the nearest shop, not nice five minutes after that op.

Im not going to lie it was a bad life choice on my part and has caused nothing but problems, put it this way the things you read on the internet are a lot more common then the NHS make out. Make sure you are happy to live with what might happen then again they might not.

Before i had it done i sat down with my doctor and went through all my worries which he replied with 90% of the time there is no difference nothing to worry about. 4 years later and a new doctor im told there is nothing they can do for my symptoms its part and parcel of having the snip sorry!!
I can honestly say if i had a 1 time time machine journey i know what i would be doing.....

Oh and the pain that others have mentioned well..... ive had more pleasant motorcycle crashes

Sorry rant over

with regards to what happens when you do the dirty, no difference you or anyone else will not be able to tell the difference. If this op was done to you overnight by magic you would not know from looking at those fluids

I've heard that the smell is nasty too. I've heard from some that it's fine. Others the opposite. I swear some of the people that say it's fine are people that don't have a high sex drive though. I'd like to hear from people that have had it done at quite a young age (early 30s say) and how that has affected them.

See when I read things like the above horror stories, I don't really want to dick around with my...dick. I'm quite fond of how it works see and wouldn't want to change/alter/interupt anything.

I had it done 10 yrs ago at 36 and it hasn't affected my sex drive...it actually went up a notch :)
I decided to watch it being done and it was completely painless but a little freaky.
No pain afterwards and just carried on as normal.
I had to provide 2 clear samples and then it was safe, it was a matter of weeks and not a year.
Mentally it was tough for a couple of days when it dawned on me I could no longer father children but with 5 it soon went :)

I had it done about a year ago. Im 33 and have 2 kids and happy with that + the mrs was always complaining about having to take jags/tablets or whatever.

I was nervous as hell going into hospital, what man wouldnt have been :) I was taken to my room and told to get changed, a nurse soon came up to outline the procedure and get me to sign permission. then she asked me if I wanted a general or a local annestitic and explained the benifits of both. I still wasnt too sure so she asked if I was a nervouse type of person, I told her when it comes to someone slicing up my bits I was pretty much bricking it :) She said with men that are really nervous is can be like fishing for their tonsils as the testicles have basically ran away :D

The worst and most humiliating part of my life was yet to come :( A male nurse then walked in and told me he was to get me ready. Hmm, what do you mean I said??? I have to tidy you up down below he said, he then produced a baby blue electic razor and it began :( I have never been more uncomfortable in my life. I told him if I had have know I would have done it myself, apparantly a gillette mach 3 shave would have meant no operation though as it would have been too close a shave and prone to infection.

I was wheeled down, knocked out and before I knew it I was in the recovery room. Was back home about 3 hrs later. TBH there was very little pain, just a dull ache. I do feel a strange sort of sensation down there that I never noticed before, could all be in my mind though.

I found the worst part was when the doctor started cutting and the local anaesthetic hadn't quite kicked in fully yet.

just for the hernia part. good to walk around after it :) though extremely tiring. now. these are words you will thank me for. eat LOTS of fibre. prunes etc. no doubt they will give you Co-codamol. that stuff makes you uber constipated. combine that with your soon to be inability to ' push ' makes for tiring, lengthy and painful work!

I had it done 11 years ago when I was 30.

If you don't like a needle being stuck in each nut whilst your'e awake I suggest you have a general anaesthetic if you have it done.

It hurts

There were about 12 other people having it done that day and I was the only one having a local.

Also the smoke being given off when the doctor was cauterising my bits were a bit worrying.

1) you cant have unprotected sex for at least 12 months after, as some sperm might still exist.

It's three months. You have a test after 6 weeks and then another six weeks later. If both are clear the operation is considered successful.

2) don't believe the 'in and out' in an afternoon, and back to work next day, my mate was off for a week, with reduced duty's for a week after that. He described the pain as a persistant kick in the tacticals.

Would probably depend on what you do for a living but you should be able to go back to work in a couple of days if you follow the advice they give you.

On the upside, if you do get an infection and the swelling is sufficient, you could perhaps use your gonads as a means of conveyance, space-hopper style.

After that it was a bit of tugging here and there, a burning smell and a slight plume of smoke.

I wasn't expecting to be so amused coming in here. These had me giggling, whether they were all intended to be funny or not. :D

Sorry but im glad some of you also had local anaesthetic as thats the only option i had. I pleaded to be knocked out under a general as i have a high tolerance to anaesthetic and have woken up early in operations. Needless to say 4 jabs in each ball and i could still feel everything.... 

I had mine done in my early 20’s & i will be honest, to those who worry about it working correctly. Its will work fine, although i will say that your brain be a few steps ahead of your member, in that you may be mentally aroused before it shows physically. Never a failure to show though . I have also noticed a definite lack of mental connection if you know what i mean?
How to put it, im not sure if anyone is the same but prior to the snip when i was aroused and any further stimulation mentally or physically would result in twitches as if i was tensing i would just have to think about it and it would twitch.

Since the op this has been gone even if i try to tense to do it..... anyone else?

Apart from that i haven’t had any problems. Lol its embarrassing writing this.

Just a small cut and in he went fishing for the tube, he hooked it out through the incision and put a clamp on it.
He cut a small section of the tube out then popped the ends back in. Repeated for the other side. Good fun.
I was stabbed through my bicep and the doc put his finger in to check for debris. He told me not to look but I did anyway, his finger passed through my arm and poked out the other side....I puked :-)
