More XBox Rumours...Constant Internet Connection Required

Ah sorry I thought you had some knowledge of it going down and how often, so your comment was based on nothing?

Not at all, it was based on past experience (that is, times I've turned my Xbox on and been unable to sign into Live because it was temporarily down) and on other sources (people asking if XBL is down on forums, Twitter, gaming websites reporting service outages etc). You know, the usual sources of information.

Imagine the class action lawsuits in the US if XBL went down for a substantial amount of time

It will be very interesting to see what they add into the EULA regards XBL TOS for it

ps3ud0

Well in my own experience I have had very little problems in 8 years with Live, and yeah people always ask is Live/PSN/Twitter/FB etc etc down and more often than not they are not but they have their own connection issues.

Maybe I am just lucky and Live is down regularly and not really a usable service though.

Even if they have connection issues, surely they should still be able to play their single player games?

Yeah totally agree I am deffo not buying one just in case it goes down for 5 mins once a year, that will show them :D

your not really getting the point. yeah at the min it might not of gone down a lot - but you don't need to be connected to use it.

look at the recent problems with PC games that need always on connections like recently the new sim city - servers got overloaded and a lot couldnt connect and couldn't play the game. it wasn't just 5 mins downtime. if every game etc required you to connect as soon as a big release comes out if the servers cant handle it they would go down.

The thing is, it doesn't need to be always online! It's just another anti-piracy measure that can potentially cause hassle to people that buy genuine games.

Remember a couple of years back when LIVE went down for a week over Christmas, imagine how much worse it'd be not being able to access your games at all!?

Why shouldn't we be able to access our games without being online?

I've been an XBOX guy since the start but an always online console will make me look to the competition for my console gaming fix.

I am just curious as I have never had any problems that I can recall signing into Live, my ISP has gone down a few times and yes it's annoying but I don't see it as the end of the world and would not put me off having the internet.

Sounds like you have some issues with MS though.

Current rumours make out that you can't even start games at all without internet, so if your internet went down for a few hours, you'd be happy not being able to even use your new Xbox until the connection came back up?

Oh yeah I would probably be shaking with rage if that ever happened.

I'd be pretty annoyed if I couldn't game at all tbh, because I only generally play mp but if it was down I'd at least wish to be able to play single player.

But as I say, I'll wait to hear the official line before I lose any sleep over it.

When my internet is down I DO play SP games. Being unable to do that would make me very mad. So to prevent that I simply wouldn't buy the NextBox.

Exactly, It doesn't make me angry when live is down, even when it was for a week. They gave us free game/s and added the time to our accounts iirc. Not being able to game at all would be a pain when I have bought the game.

So rather than find myself in that situation I will go with the competition if it becomes fact. Only game I'd miss is Gears of War now anyway.

The only two exclusives I really play on the 360 is Gears and Halo, and tbh both series' seem to have run their course now.

The lack of new exclusives, the declining quality of their current exclusives and an 'always online' DRM/2nd hand game blocker will turn the next XBOX into a complete failure.

Same here. MS have done a really good job of not seeming interested in proper gamers. They seem more interested in Kinect rubbish now.

I would get a new ISP :p

It's not always the ISP's fault though. There could be a reason out of their control why my internet is down. And i'd be very annoyed if I'd paid £40 for a new game and I'm told I can't play it.
