I presume I'm allowed to ask a few questions about series 1 (book 1?) in here?

What I don't understand is why the army of the north with Robb Stark in command didn't just send word to Stannis and Renly and then combine with the Bartheons to form one large army with the task of putting the rightful heir on the throne (Stannis). I know Renly was disputing things as well but he could probably be persuaded to join them in the defeat of a mutal enemy (Lannisters).

Robb didn't want the crown. He just wants to defeat the Lannisters and (like his Father) restore the rightful ruler. I don't see why he couldn't join forces with Stannis and/or Renly and attack the Lannisters.

Surely that would have made more sense?

He sent his mother to Renly to propose an alliance - that's why she was there when the shadow baby assasinated Renly and she had to flee because she was implicated.

3, 11, 8 for me!

Watched Monday's episode last night, it was much, much better than the week before which was a relief!

They sent word to Renly, through Catelyn, as he had the bigger army of the two Baratheons. Catelyn tried to get Renly to join forces with Stannis, and both brothers refused, hence their surprisingly funny little chat on top of that hill. Renly then got killed, Catelyn was a suspect and had to flee, and Stannis is too stubborn to see Robb as anything but a northern upstart (ironic, really, given his accent!).

Not watched season two yet lol so not entirely clear on the details. The Catelyn thing would clear my problem up though - presumably the Bartheons suspect her of killing Renly etc etc.

Also, from what you've said the Bartheons appear to be complete idiots so they were at fault. But even that is a bit odd for Stannis is supposed to be a seasoned General and you would have thought he could have seen the benefit of joining up with another 20,000 northerners.

Lucky swine

It's funny because the way stuff is filmed, he may as well be on a completely different show to those two hotties.

What I cant understand is that if Joffrey is so quick tempered and tyrannical that he would even threaten his own mother, how can he let the dwarf Tyrian slap him around to the point where he is in tears?

He is the only halfman in the seven kingdoms to have stood up to him since he was born, also Tyrion tends to do it privately, and Joffers truely hates him, utterly and completely.

Joffrey is a coward. He's used to people instantly doing what he wants and cowering in fear in front of him because of who his 'father' was and his title now.

Tyrion is one of the few people who has ever stood up to him. Tywin is just about the only other person who can.

Stannis was advised to treat with either Renly or Robb by Maester Cressen and Davos. He viewed Renly as attempting to usurp his right to the throne. The price of allying with Robb would be recognising him as King in the North and Riverlands; thus losing 2 of the 7 kingdoms.

I still say the only actually sane people in this are the mad women in the Vale/Eyrie thing and the Lord of the Bridge Castle (Frey?).

They have sense enough to keep to themselves and ignore the sheer lunacy of the other idiots fighting with and killing each other for the right to rule a kingdom which is more trouble than it's worth.

What?!
Frey is a very dodgy guy, he is basically trying to take over the Kingdoms by marrying his various family members off into other Lord's families.
He doesn't pick any allegiances until the outcome is certain.

He isn't very virtuous or honourable

sounds sane to me. And as for virtue and honour. ****** that. It gets you killed. Better to sit in your castle 100 miles away and wait for the other monkeys (lannister idiots, Northern naieve fools etc) to kill each other.

Staying alive is the main objective. And furthering the family line/wealth.

Anway, I'd struggle to name anyone who isn't called Stark/Snow who has any honour/viture at all in the Game of Thrones universe (and look what happens to them!).

The Freys are social climbers. They are a relatively new house that just about everyone looks down on and want to avoid marrying into.

Getting such a major marriage contract to marry his children to the King in the North and Riverlands and his sister would have dramatically improved their social standing.

Robb will create problems by breaking a publicly made solemn vow as it shows he is not trustworthy.

The only sane people in Game of Thrones are the black brothers / wildlings. Everyone else is worried about who will be king instead of what is on the north side of the wall and that winter is coming.

Most people south of the Wall don't believe in other beings. And of that minority that do believe, the majority think they have long since died out.
