*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

For reals though just train for strength if you're that worried. My legs haven't ever really grown, always been about 24" at my current bodyweight but they have got stronger.

Mines have doubled since squatting, chinos/slim jeans etc. No chance can I fit in them.

no decent man should ever fit in slim fit jeans anyway. :D
Especially since I've lost a bit of flab and got to a 33" waist even regular jeans are a struggle. Legs are just 26" so no tree trunks for me just yet.
But I also reduced the volume on legs a bit because I want to buy trousers from regular shops, just 4-6 sets of back squats, 4 sets of front squats and 6-7 sets of extensions. hamstrings get hit during deadlifts and that's it good enough for me.

The thing is I know my legs are growing as I bought new jeans when I dropped weight and these are now getting really tight to put on especially round the thigh area.

Yes slim/skinny jeans isn't everyones taste but then again part of me training is for vanity. I guess I'll carry on training as per and see where it goes and if need be I'll get new jeans/trousers.

Haven't posted in this thread for ages because normally I cba. However I wanted some advice on how to adapt my workout so my body keeps responding, because at the moment it seems to be doing well. And I don't want that to stop.

I've been plagued by injury for a number of years (Ask Scott!) but at the moment I'm pretty healthy so I intend to make the most of it. (Although I did strain my right MCL, ffs)

Today was chest

BB Bench:
Bar x lots
70 x 12
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 4 x 5

DB Incline

30 x 12 x 5 (Annoyingly the highest DB at the moment)

Incline DB Flys

20 x 8 x 5

Then some other random stuff like curls

Anyone got any exercises they would recommend either adding in or substituting? I could always do decline DB I suppose. There's no peck deck at my gym.

Decline work? How about cable flyes every so often?

Need steedie to post up a one off chest workout to mix things up every so often :D

Just started the stronglifts 5x5 routine today. I've been to the gym before but, my gym buddy was giving me useless information it seems.

I really feel good after the session and can tell that I'm going to like a structured programme such as this. My goals is to improve strength and appearance alongside that. And to lose weight. Currently around the 16 stone mark with a body fat of 25%. Should I be finishing the routine with some cardio?

Also, its quite funny listening to some of my friends claim that the programme is useless and you don't work out enough on it. And then coming to the realization that they aren't great at what there doing anyway with poor nutrition and lack of leg work.

Cheers, looking forward to being part of this community.

Hip abductors and Hyper Extensions of the machine type, any one have any sets and rep recommendations?

Why are you looking at using the abductor machine? What benefit? Wheres the videos of your squats!!!!111

Stick to the program and you will make gains :)

Nothing wrong with training for vanity rather than sitting on the couch all day long. Even those who "never do bicep curls" wear a tight t-shirt every now and then so I can understand that. ;)

But having legs that fit into skinny (carrot whatever) jeans and being confusable with a girl from behind is just sad, no man should ever be in that position.:D

All my gym mates pretty much ripped me for doing stronglifts, said it was pointless etc. None of them can keep up with my in the gym anymore.

In-fact not seen some of them in a while, can't wait to go back to the gym with them :D

Yeah, I saw my manager today who's been bugging me to go. He started trying to get my to do all sorts of bicep curls and to get 'Pythons' like himself. To be honest, whenever I've wanted to do something I research it well and then do that activity. I never understand people who just turn up or do something half arsedly like doing a routine and not eating correctly.
