*breaking news* Boston Marathon explosions

This Internet speculation and analysis of the video and photos is incredibly dangerous. This could potentially ruin innocent people's lives.

Yeah like with the backpacks - could be completely mistaken, the real deal or someone had noticed/was in a position to know they'd been issued to support staff and used them to blend in (all complete assumption). But knee jerk reaction could be the first person with a matching backpack was the bomber and they get attacked :S

Suggestions that the brown smoke seen after the explosion points at Tannerite, freely available in the US.

A lot of the methodology seems to hint at domestic or possibly state sponsored (north korea, etc.) origin rather than being done by an entity like al qaeda.

Not really, wouldn't be any different to the police/FBI putting up wanted posters or asking for information on certain people. If they have nothing to hide they'll just hand themselves in and get cleared.

doubt it would be north korea - that would be pretty dumb of them ... the states doesn't tend to sit around when its citizens gets blown up.

I don't care if that is the or one of the attackers, totally different evidence and very dangerous to be pointing fingers. Children. Can only think of themselves.

Of course it would be as then it would be done by trained professionals rather than internet sleuths and warriors that are matching the remnants of what looks like a very generic backpack to anyone with a backpack in the crowd regardless of how well it matches.

Not looking at the race constantly? That's your bomber right there. Madness.

Loving the cries for checking of cctv "But they must have cctv, it's EVERYWHERE".

Meanwhile, in the next thread... "there is too much cctv, der taking our freedoms!".

Basically, it's always the government's fault regardless, right?

You're telling me the same people are for and against surveillance? Got anything to back this up?

Got a direct link?

"Substantial progress" has been made in the criminal investigation into Monday's marathon bombings, a Boston law enforcement source told CNN's John King. "This is significant," the source said.

maybe its someone identified in one of these photos etc ... be cool.

Could you explain to me exactly how in any way shape of form it fits the description of "cool"? How anything about this could be remotely considered as "cool"? The only people who could see anything "cool" about anything here are sociopaths who get off on warporn.

think you are getting a bit carried away -

cool as in maybe they can get to the bottom of whom did this and identify them - who knows perhaps stop them from doing it again etc ...

No, I am not carried away I just don't think that is in any way "cool" because I have a modicum of empathy for maybe what a tragedy this is for the people concerned. Simple.

Relax, might not have been the best turn of phrase for the circumstances but he very obviously didn't mean any disrespect by it.

Like I say I am relaxed I just don't know why people would use such terms. I just think such things these days tend to move from the informative to the voyeuristic and speculative. And he may not have meant disrespect and I didn't take it that way but it certainly showed a distinct lack of thought and empathy. Hence why I said why would you use the word "cool".

A second source briefed on the investigation told King that department store video (apparently surveillance footage) from a local Lord & Taylor in Copley Square shows a clear facial recognition; investigators had been looking for video of a suspect placing down a bag and walking away.
