Egham?

I work in Egham and live in Staines.

Egham is nice enough but its pricey and the town centre is dire, personally I don't think you get good value for money. Alternatively I'd recommend Staines (Laleham end), Laleham or Chertsey.

I'd avoid Englefield Green and certainly avoid Stanwell and Feltham, Ashford isn't particulaly nice either.

Avoid Staines, not the greatest of areas to be honest. Egham isnt too bad though.

you know Ali G is ironic don't you?

Absolutely nothing wrong with Staines, it's an incredibly generic south-eastern town.

Egham, however, is possibly the most boring place in the world; the town centre is pretty much a glorified old people's home and the number of charity shops is frightening. I wouldn't recommend living there at all unless you want a particularly quiet and boring existence.

Old Windsor might be cheaper, or live further out and get the train. Egham's not that big so anywhere should be walkable from the station. I worked right by the station many years ago. Good selection of shops, restaurants etc all on the high street and perfectly safe place to be.

Only problem would be finding a flat in Old Windsor. Its nearly all detached/semi-detached houses.

Had to make this very decision only last week.

I went with Staines in the end. Most 1 beds seem to go for £850/month or so. I'm paying £1k/month for a 2 bed in a gated community a stone throw from the centre of town.

Was told there's not a massive amount to do in Egham. Englefield Green has all the Royal Holloway students. Research told me to avoid Feltham. Sunbury looked a bit rough too.

Staines has surprisingly good shopping, decent transport links (35 minutes or so to Waterloo, easy to get to M3, M25, M4, close to Heathrow) and is near Thorpe Park. Pretty decent location really.

leave off, the iceland is well exciting on a tuesday night! Agree with everything about Egham/Englefield Green though, everyone is either a student or an OAP and you can't afford anything anyway.

I go to college in Egham, it's a decent area during the day. You occasionally get a bit of trouble in the highstreet at night with Gypsies and stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if you stumbled onto a drug deal within the first few days but other than that It's good.

Gypsies (well Roma) and guys pushing drugs on the street are Prague's specialities, I've got used to them now :D

I think Old Windsor is really expensive, and the trains from there are absolutely rubbish!

There's nothing wrong with Ashford, man! IT@S ABSolutely fine, though lacks pubs.

I concur, Egham is dull. Went to a nice beer festival there recently, but it's still not wonderful.

Based on my experiences working at SAP if your are going to be in consulting location will not really matter as the company will have you offsite a customer locations 5 days a week and you may no see the office for months.
