My FX setup is lightning fast .. It boots is seconds and runs everything faster than my current i5 and last AMD ....
Are you sure everything is setup correctly ?? The windows errors are not right and the slow mapping is not right either .... That needs looking at.
I'm assuming it's a normal windows 7 install ?? ( legit copy ) and you have the motherboard drivers installed and updated ??
I also have to say windows 8 is very smooth ... Just give it a few hours of playing around as once you get to grips with it you'll be sorted![]()
Maybe so. I have tried it with ClassicShell and start8 and they get the Win7 GUI back, but I cannot get the Areo junk back... Not really pushed it to try that much however, so I may experiment again.
Can't say I've had any problems with my 8350. It flew through the 100 odd updates.
I did have trouble with my first install of Windows 7 on the CPU but I put it down to one of those things and not cpu related and reinstalled and could not fault it since.
I have had to reinstall 4 times and I am still not happy.
Basically, you havent set up your PC correctly and now trying to do the typical AMD sucks at everything compared to Intel statement. Heard it before, boring now.
/Thread. Go fix your pc.
I would say thats an incorrect statement, I have built far too many PCs to not know what I am doing, however, the idea is starting to dig in because I am currently wheelchair bound, and have use of one hand, plus, by the time I had finally managed to get all the bits from one PC to another and then the spare bits on the shelf, it was closing on 4am, so...
I'm not sure this is an AMD rant, especially given he's just said that a 3930k is only 5-10% faster than an FX83XX lol.
I also said that I have not benchmarked it, and I also said that for my uses, it was... and it is. I am also not specifically stating that, because this is ONLY happening as of the last couple of days. When I used the setup in Linux, it was sweet as a nut.
Why do you have 24GB of RAM in an x79 motherboard. 2x8 and 2x4? Does that still run in quad channel? Or is that then dual channel.
Not 24 no. 32. 4x8GB GSKILL Reaper.
And did you really call your daughter a "spoilt cow"? #classy.
Im joking. I love her to bits, but she has my best cast offs, when all she does is play Midnight beast videos on youtube!!! LOL
Sounds more like motherboard issue to me. TBF a 'cheap' 790 chipset may be the problem with slow router throughput. It is very unlikely that it would be the FX8350 itself.
Agreed. I love the HEX core, and thats not been anything like this, although I think the router issue, and I must point out that its NOT the router at all... Its only that this thing will ONLY access the router at 10MB through its gigabit port... I have chucked a 300N USB jobbie into it and its fine and connect at 300 just spanky, and none of the other PCs have this issue either. The router is good.
So, Im thinking that its simply a cruddy Mobo and maybe I had this issue under Linux, I just never realised ( When under linux, it talked to the switch not the router directly ) so I never saw the orange light on the router and never thought any different.
strip it and rebuild it, this time do it right![]()
I think I will have to. I am rather hoping that its not needed as its not an easy task for me anymore.
But it may have to be?
So, you replaced a 6 core 12 thread CPU with a 4 module 8 thread CPU that has much lower IPC and is barely clocked higher, and it doesn't seem as good in overall use? :O
Not quite no.
The AMD6 is in one Mobo, the AMD8 is in another.
I have never once had the chance to put them head to head, but in saying that, I also have an AMD4 @ 3.2 and its about on par with the [email protected] - again, I have NOT run any benchmarks, but I have done basic tasks like convert an AVI to DVD etc and they do it about the same speed give or take a few % and I dont really care too much about that these days.
yeah it does sound like a motherboard issue, my amd needs a new motherboard as i cheaped out and didnt do my research to find out that my motherboard doesnt support an 8350 what is the make and model of your mobo?
LOL thats what I did, I am NOT going to lie.
I got the AMD8 and hoped it would replace the AMD6. That board is an Asus M4A79XTD EVO. But alas, after seeing a black screen, my worries were verified.
I then bought this Gigabyte 970A DS3 as that DOES support the FX range. I was very happy with it, and so thats why I decided to swap my I7 for the AMD8 as my main PC, but now the AMD8 is slow as heck.
No, let me also add, that the Windows results are great, the slowest component is my GFX card at 7.3 and the HD is at 7.4 and CPU at 7.5 so its scoring nice enough?
The 8350 is an ok CPU but lets get real here, it's like comparing Usain Bolt to John Goodman.
Sounds like the op derped somewhere with his setup, or has a dodgy install of windows or even has dodgy parts and blames AMD for his ignorance towards the fact that it is most likely a user error.
LOL. I am worried because I am starting to think its me too, but I think I have enough XP to know what I am doing. I am also ranting a bit I will freely admit, but in a kind of pleading call for help kind of way.
It sounds like a dodgy HDD tbh!
Check for bad sectors!
What motherboard does the OP have?
Not bad sector issue. HD is a Kingston 120GB SDD, Mobo is a Gigabyte 790A-DS3. BIOS was at FB and I am just uppign it to FD as I type.
Also, if you have and older than 9xx series Mobo, it is very likely you will have to update the BIOS to make it play well with the chip!
Done.
