iRacing

I agree, it doesn't make it easier as such, although it's easier to race closely (taking the risk that whilst you may see them they may not see you), and does take a bit of getting used to, at first I was overreacting to any slight movement from the car next to me.

But the immersion is awesome, by far and away the best upgrade I think you can do, I recently 'had' to run one of the UKI oval races on my laptop away from home and the single screen just felt so wrong after running 3 for a while now.

Do It! :P

EDIT: There is a certain amount of being able to see the apex's, but I don't think it makes any significant difference, if you run single screen with lower FOV you just end up using other cues to hit the apex, if you're consistently not hitting the apex then maybe triples will work but it's not happening because of single screen if that makes sense...

I've got Samsung 26" 1920x1200 monitors, running on a ~4.15GHz Core2Duo and a 2Gb 6950 (with 6970 shaders unlocked, but not at the full clock speeds). GPU memory is the big thing, I can't run everything maxed out but it's smooth everywhere.

I use a 23"-27"-24" with a GTX 580 and 610. They were just two monitors I had being using for desktop browsing and such but then I found out about SoftTH and started using that.

No, the 580 can only support two outputs so I bought a 610 for £30 just to display my third monitor. It also handles PhysX.

The 610 doesn't help with running games other than that.

Easily the best race i have ever been involved in outside of a real track. Battling from start to finish, 4th -8th all corssing the line within a second of each other.

I went from 16th to 6 which in my first race with such a strong grid I'm well happy with especially having no setup to run with really.

Shame I dont have Indy to do the next one but I will defo be back when I can and I advise you all to sign up to it. The racing and strength of field was brilliant. Some real proper racing going on bumper to bumper. With everyone showing respect. Its was brilliant to be part of such a great race.

I wished I the skill and/or patience and time to practice enough to enjoy races like that. At the moment I'm so far off the pace that I end up with a few laps of racing other cars. After that I'm mostly lapping by myself, doing my best to keep it on the black stuff.

Me too.

Are there enough iRacing noobs here to warrant a private race one night?

Only seat time will help you get better also running with people better and faster than, you.

I owe a lot to Gravey, Skill and the rest of the Radical guys they really helped me get up to speed in no time and learn me the skills I need to put in some good results.

Ps its not about raw pace mate not at all its about who is the smartest drivers a lot of the time. Dont let raw pace put you off. What lap times are you doing at Laguna ? with race fuel on board

I suck.

I do enjoy the racing though.

I do not want to race against people better than me, I want to race against others who also suck who just want to have fun :)

I'm lapping in the low 1:25's to mid 1:24's.

At most tracks I'm about 3.5-4 seconds off the alien times once I've put in a few hours of practice.

I know I'm never going to get down to alien lap times, but at some tracks I know I'm just not going to go any quicker than I am already.

My Laguna time is unlikely to fall by much more because I'm not keen on the track and the lap time I get now feels like I'm on the limit all the way around each and every lap.

Not a fan of Laguna myself but after a few practice sessions and learning how the car reacts to different lines at laguna I manged to come down from 1:24's-1:25's when I felt on the limit like you are. Down to 1:23's with race fuel on board.

I use all that feng shui rubbish, slow in fast out, etc etc it certainly seems to work for me. The places i found huge amount of time, The whole first hairpin. I picked up a second there by using a lot more of the road and driving out the bend much earlier. The next two fast right handers also, I found the first one if I broke much ealier and started the roation of the car early I could get much better drive out of there and picked up .2-.3, the second right hander its best just to be smooth there its a bend you will loose more than you gain else.

The weird left hander about turn 8 just after the tire bridge, that leads up to the corkscrew. Get that right and you can get a good half a second. The corkscrew get a nice wide but early line through it and you can put the power on half way down the hill and stay tight the the next right hand curb, again I was picking up .2-.3 here.

The left hander and right hander after the corkscrew keep the car balanced and smooth you will loose more than you gain here else. But I found another .2-.3 here if nailed.

The last bend brake at the 2 keep the car wide and be very smooth so you can get on the power nice and early. Again just be smooth here or you can loose more than you gain by kicking the backend out on exit and having to lift.

Laguna is a track I find unless your an Alien its all about being smart push on the bends you can get away with. But just be smooth on the rest drive at 95% as you will loose a second or 2 by pushing to much.

Whats your OPT at Laguna mate ?

Managed to finish 3rd at Okayama in the MX-5 in what was a fairly scruffy race for me (mainly at the very start and towards the end), having started 12th. I almost lost it coming out of turn 2 while among the pack, so the fact I saved my car getting wrecked was a feat in itself. I ended up last after that because I was sliding all over the place on the grass, but I managed to claw my way back up to third by lap 5ish. On lap 8 I somehow almost lost it at turn 8 while getting back up to speed because I was done for cutting turn 6 so had to slow down on the proceeding straight. The remainder of the race involved fending off the guy in 4th - he caught up almost six seconds from me slowing down and having my moment. Luckily I did and finished on the podium for the first time.

Fastest lap was a 1:51:327, though the guy who won somehow managed a mid 1:48...

What's your irating or are you still rookie? Get to D class and you can see it.

Eventually it will drop below 1000 if you keep on coming near the back of the pack and you will get match made to similar racers. You will then find yourself with people of similar skill.

You start off with an irating above 1000. You get cleaner races but everyone is pro.
