That's good to know that there's no RAM usage on the S4 that was my mine concern primarily due to the additional bloat that's on the official ROM.

We'll know soon enough about the Moto phone, there's all sorts of rumours flying around, if it does have a 720p screen and hardware similar or equal to the N4 then yes i'll bypass the phone and buy the S4 instead :cool:

I have to wait for Rainforest to process my refund and get the funds back into the account before I buy it though. It gives me time to weigh up the options :cool:

Yeah a lot of the bloat I have turned off or disabled via built in apps manager.

If there's no new Moto on Weds then I'll be a bit miffed, and I'm sure you'll be too.

Keep an eye on Amazon's prices, as you probably know they fluctuate quite a bit. When you see it at £550 hit the buy button! :D

Amazon's prices fluctuate wildly but am keeping an eye on the site and have my finger hovering over the buy button because I really do think there won't be an moto "x" phone and we'll all be miffed :confused:

When I get the S4 I'll be doing the same and disabling all the bloat, have you noticed any laggyness or stuttering as some people have been reporting?

What's the delay with the "X" phone? There's all sorts of rumours circulating that Google have jumped off the project and left Moto to their own devices?

I certainly hope that the "X" phone or some sort of phone from Moto makes an appearance otherwise they'll be playing catch up again.

Just to let you know that the HO went back because HTC didn't satisfy my query in regards to the camera and told me to take it back and get a replacement. I'm certainly not going with a fourth phone! :eek:

Yup, I have a feeling that this i/o event is going to be rather lame for us android users :( Certainly nothing like 4.0 and 4.1 anyway.

However, I very much like the sound of this:

First off, he says the team is working on a way to simplify and streamline updates across versions and manufacturers. Efforts like Facebook Home, he mentioned, are what shows the artwork and customization that can be done because of Android's openness, but at the same time Google wants a more uniform and consistent look across the board, so it has to strike a balance at some point.

My two biggest and only gripes with android/skins currently. Can't stand the lack of unified feel throughout, only sense and the newest motorola skin are good when it comes to this. And well the update area has been a complete joke for every device (not just the time at which updates arrive but also the quality of them) except for nexus devices (and even then google haven't exactly been "perfect" i.e. no 4.2 for the nexus s and no ICS for the nexus one [would have worked fine] and then buggy releases i.e. 4.2, wouldn't mind but when it takes them so long to fix the issues then it is annoying......) If google can truly sort those two issues out then android will most certainly have surpassed iOS imo.

The problem is, app developers.....look at how long it has taken the majority of them to update to the ICS guidelines and a lot still haven't....... so how long till they take advantage of this new thing or whatever it is???

Only thing I am looking forward to, which there is a good chance of happening is the new revised nexus 7.


No idea what is happening with the X phone and TBH, I have sort of lost interest in it now :o Not bothering to read many of rumours either as I don't think it will be as special as what we are all being led to believe. And of course you then have to factor in:

- how long till they are actually up for sale, could be announced in the next few days, however, not sold for another 2-4 weeks :o
- shortages/stock levels
- QC issues i.e. just look at the HTC one and GS 4 problems, are motorola going to be any different, highly unlikely :p :D

etc.

I guess it's easy predicting the habits of a phone junkie and what he will do next but I have to give you props, you did call it months ago :eek:

The I/O won't be particularly exciting for those wanting to see new hardware, I don't think we'll even see a refreshed Nexus 7. I certainly hope that I'm wrong, as I would ideally like to see a refreshed Nexus 4 & 7 alongside a lovely X phone.

It's good to see that Google are trying to overcome the fragmentation issue, so I suppose it rings true that OEM's asked Google to delay the release of 5.0 so they can catch up and release 4.2.2 on their phones.

Sense 5 is a breath of fresh air and Moto's skin is extremely close to vanilla android, whereas Touchwiz is a migraine and is an eye sore. Google have lots of work to do in regards to updates and if they can overcome this major but extremely critical obstacle then it will be a massive win for Android.

You have to give Apple major props in the sense that they don't have any such issues in the way Google have to deal with things. It's one OS and one phone, whereas Google is quite the opposite.

I think with the X phone a lot of us had welcomed and took on board all the rumours that were circulating around which in the end might be just too good to be true. Now if it does eventually materialize it may be no more than a N4 specced phone with 4.2.2 and nothing ground breaking or special about it. So I can understand why you've lost interest in it. :)

If the X phone is by some miracle announced at the I/O it has to compete with the likes of the HO and S4 and if it's not specced similarly to those two phones, Moto does not have a chance in hell, not only specs wise but because the HO and S4 will have had time to bed in.

I'm actually quite surprised with the amount of QC issues that the S4 has reportedly facing, I can't recall the S2 or S3 having such issues. Samsung could've rush released the S4 hence the poor software optimisation and display issues, give it a month or two and Samsung will have sorted out these problems, but you will not see an X phone even then.

Yup exactly what you said pretty much, too many rumours that are just too good to be true and unfortunately these days, hype seems to be one of the main key points to generate sooooo much interest and promise but actually fails to deliver come the time i.e. the GS 4 overall and the htc one camera imo, neither have exactly been as revolutionary as what Samsung and HTC made out and given that we haven't actually had any proper info aside from a few photos of the X, it just doesn't fill me with confidence, surely if they have a truly epic device then we would be seeing some more "concrete" evidence about all these "amazing/revolutionary features"?? :confused:

Once again, spot on, just look at the RAZR HD/MAXX, epic phones, imo were better overall compared to the GS 3 and one X/S (main con was the camera), however, Moto were too late and way too late for the UK etc., not to mention charging too much hence they failed :p and of course lack of marketing was a big reason why they failed too.

I am not too fussed on having the very best of specs. as long as it has the standard stuff i.e. 2GB RAM, good dual core krait CPU (most likely will be a S4/s600), at least 16GB internal storage, all I really want:

- nice design overall, don't care if it is plastic or aluminium, just as long as it looks and feels nice
- stereo speakers on the front
- superb camera "overall"
- good quality screen, happy with 720P at size 4.3-4.8"
- great battery life, on par with the HTC one, GS 4 (being moto, I expect them to have a huge battery)
- great software overall


Yeah I can't recall of many people having issues with them two phones, at least not as many as there currently are with the GS 4 but you had a few on here who had the usual issues i.e. screen quality varying, camera issues i.e. pink spots and the software being a bit buggy i.e. battery drain especially with the GS 2 (the hubs were the main cause iirc). Yup no doubt that all these issues will be sorted within the next month or so.

oh all ye of little faith, I'm not aware of google stepping away from the X and it will be here before long but not at IO, I believe it will be teased then but it'll be fully unveiled shortly.

And I wouldn't think of it as a specs monster, I'd look at recent comments from google management about phone plus, my belief is it will be like a nexus phone on steroids, like if google skinned android almost.

and I still think it'll be lost in a world of samsung etc.

tbh there not much left to wow us on a phone - it could only grab attention if its good and cheap like the nexus 4 or if it combine's all the great features of all the flagship handsets wrapped in a sleek well made shell which would make it a mega-uberphone. As it's Moto neither are likely :D

Needs to be on sale like now and have proper SW support.

CPWH have texted me to let know that the accessory bundle has been delayed. So it has been about 10days now and no bundle !
The only item I am really bothered about to have right now is the flip case. I can wait for the rest of items.

Mine is running nicely - I do get the odd stutter but it runs at least as fast as my S3 on a custom rom+kernel.

S4 + custom rom + kernel will = epic!
 
So I have had my S4 for about a week now.
So far I am impressed and disappointed as well !

The spec and screen are just amazing, however my now old HTC Desire S seems to me a lot more user friendly than the S4.

So far I have issues with the wrapping of text on the screen from web pages and e mails. On my htc I can just pinch to the size I want and the tect wraps.
Now the S4 I have to go in to the setting use a slide bar to the size of text I am comfortable with. Then go back to the web browser double tab the screen for it to wrap to my predetermined set size. I can not pinch it to a new size and it automatically wraps !
This to me is a big disappointment as the bigger screen for web browsing is what brought me over to S4 over my current htc.

Secondly, when I connect my htc to a PC the memory card in the htc loads as a disk drive. Fantastic as I get a 32GB memory card as a drive to use.
I have installed a 64GB memory card in the S4 and can not access sweet FA !

So how do I get the 64GB to mount as a disk / flash stick when I connect to a PC ?

text wrap is a HTC only feature - don't ask me why lol

Samsung browser has a text booster option - tick that then double tap to zoom on web pages if you need to. It works great for me.

I can paste files in to the memory card in windows explore. However I can not rename the card and I can create new folders unless I cut and paste a folder on to the card.
This is not a true disk drive function,..what is going on Samsung ! ?

As for text, I have the text boost on and the text scaling I have set to 155%.

I do think the the htc is a user friendly phone !

just tried it - I can rename the card - left it as 'card' though, don't want to screw up any directories.


Can make new folders on the sd card and rename it no problem.
