Advice on foxes

Is my cat in danger?

Could be. A colleague of mine was awoken by screaming on Wednesday night to find a neighbour's cat pinned against a wall in his garden by 2 foxes. They wouldn't budge, even with my colleague shouting at/shooing them. They only took notice when he threw a bucket of water on them.

The poor cat was hysterical, even after the foxes scarpered. It had been trying to escape by climbing a sheer wall (which it left scratch marks all over). They only managed to munch some of it's tail off in the ordeal, so it was lucky.

Foxes are lovely creatures to see in the countryside, but tamer, urban foxes are complete vermin.

I'd be straight out in my garden with a slingshot if they started round here.

I hope a fox now rips one of your cats apart. Which yes, they do. Killed my little sisters cat and left bits everywhere.

You are one vile individual. My post was meant in a humorous way, yours is just sick. You are twisted and if I had my way, you would be getting a short holiday over that.

Create an army of foxes and teach them to hunt dogs, humans and horses.

How on Earth was saying you would club a member over a fox in any way humourous?

I guess in that vein anything can be, and therefore my comment could be viewed as such.

I'm amazed at the amount of fox-cat action going on. Some of it very sad.

Our cat was fine with them. She wasn't large (runt) but was admittedly hard as nails (runt).

I don't get the attachment a lot of UK people have with foxes. Maybe it is just the city folk that think they are cute little fluffy animals? I grew up in the countryside so maybe I just see them for the vermin they really are? My mum has had various animals killed/maimed by foxes. She was in hysterics a few years back when I went to visit as a fox had dug under the chicken enclosure and had attacked the chickens. They didn't even take the bodies - just beheaded them. I camped out that night (foxes always come back to the scene of the attack the next night) and promptly offed them with a 12G. Why foxes maim other animals and leave the bodies I have no idea.

This. My parents live out in the country side, and we saw first hand how awful a creature they are.

Fellow near us, had a fox get in with the chickens and did the same thing. Beheaded the chickens wantonly. It wasn't like it killed to eat, just killed them all.

I meant as an obvious joke. You obviously do actually want my cat to get ripped apart, which is quite frankly, sick.

Aye, they're touchy today it seems. Anyways, you wanna talk about evil, have you ever seen a cat with a mouse? :P

Can't stand foxes purely because of the ruddy awful noise they make in towns, we back on to a train station(sunken) in London which means we have one, a huge garden, and two, ruddy foxes, they move along railway lines all around london. The noise they produce both mating season and then when the kids fight are particularly awful, ripping apart rubbish, digging up gardens/vegetable beds, leaving a mess everywhere and chasing cats.

Not too long ago actually I saw our male cat, almost twice the size of our female cat, suddenly appeared in the middle of our garden looking scared, then a fox appeared and he ran up on top of a small table which for no apparent reason has a couple boxes on it so jumped to the top and the fox standing at the bottom getting ready to go for him. A few seconds later the female cat appeared at the bottom of the garden and ran straight at the fox, which saw her, and fled at lightning speed, at which point both cats ran directly to the cat flap, complete with biggest bushiest tails I'd ever seen on them. She is normally a completely scared cat and he's normally much braver, but it would seem like she saw her brother in trouble and ran to the rescue, was awesome.

The foxes certainly give chase to our cats every now and then, but sometimes they chase back. In that situation it was a particularly big fox, normally we get the younger foxes playing around and they are a hell of a lot more scared of our cats, the big ones though sometimes think its game on.

Is my cat in danger?

Yes. Particularly as they are competing for the same territory. Given that you have seen cubs then the Fox will defend her territory from any other predator including your cat. In normal circumstances they would probably avoid or ignore each other, but it is another matter when the Fox den is in your garden.

Call the RSPCA and don't approach them yourself...Foxes may seem cute but they are wild animals and can hurt you if they feel threatened.

Love foxes, They run through my garden on the weekly food run.
I leave them some food out as well and they sit by the back window whilst munching.
