iRacing

How can I be overheating the tyres if I'm slower in the corners than almost everyone I race against.

Because you are not braking enough from the sounds of things which will lead to you pushing the front end into the entry of each bend scrubbing the tires specially if you are turning the steering 180 degrees.

Run 20 laps in the MP4 roll into the pits hit the tire temp button and look at the temp of your front tires. I can bet at every bend at Oaky I brake earlier and harder than you, use less steering and get on the power earlier than you.

The reason I can get on the power earlier will be because my car is more balanced on entry giving me more time to line the car up for exit and be thinking about that. Not worrying about understeer and having to lift off to stop me rolling wide.

So I'm getting understeer caused by over heating tyres caused by excessive tyre scrub caused by understeer????

Basically yes, blame the big wing on the back for the understeer and this could be being made worse by to much wing in your setup I use no more than 6, which instead of helping makes things worse. Your driving style and setup could also be making it worse.

As soon as the front tire temps goes above the rears you will get understeer. If you dont control that temp change it gets worse and worse with every bend.

Slow corners in the Lotus 79 are driving me insane. So much to learn about this car.

I wish I had gone for the Lotus 79 now instead of the V8 as a play about between races car (I can't use either officially due to licence but enjoy a test session between D class races!).

Only reason I picked the V8 up is that it sounds awesome in replays :D Plus V8s are the big thing in NZ and Aus so I should really join the local scene as the local forums organise V8 events. Probably the same way that in the USA the most popular thing is oval.

Do the free tracks works for the lotus for messing about on or do you really need longer tracks with straights to make the most out of it? Only longish tracks I can think of that come with the game are Okayama and Laguna? They may be a nightmare for the lotus though

I don't think any of the free tracks would be that good in the Lotus tbh. I'd highly recommend picking up the Lotus 79 and Oulton Park though :p

Oulton has so many layouts as well that change how the track drives quite a bit.

Cheers. It's my b'day at the end of the month so instead of receiving lots of tat, I'll just tell people to give me iRacing dollars! $10 here and there would add up and I can buy a few tracks.

Just having a nosey about in the account settings in iRacing and the new guys starting out may want to check the account page!

1. Auto renew is turned on by default so if you signed up for the cheap 3 month trial it will automatically charge you 3 months full price at the end of the trial. If someone tries it and doesn't bother cancelling their account, prepare for a large credit card charge! You can turn off auto renew if you are just trying out a trial to stop being caught out.

2. It is set to use iRacing dollars towards your monthly subscription by default. If you are having a break for a bit and don't turn off auto renew you may come back to find no iRacing dollars left if you have them saved up

3. Opt-in for 3rd party emails is enabled by default which can be turned off (doesnt affect emails from iRacing themselves)

I have turned off auto renew on my account and turned off using iRacing dollars for subscription fees (as I want to see what deals may be about closer to the time in 2 months). All this can be done under the "my account" section of the website when you log in. It mentioned auto renewal is turned on when you sign up, but maybe others like me had a few beers before signing up originally and didn't read it haha!

My fav tracks for the Lotus are Brands - Oulton - Watkins but the car works well on most tracks tbh.

It would be a while before I could drive the Lotus so I have decided to just concentrate on MX5 as the main bread and butter mixed in with some Skippy and Oval racing in the stock and Chevy SS as secondary races. Being on NZ time I mostly race with Yanks or locals who race V8s. I have conceded defeat and will concentrate on the local stuff :)

Ran a few laps of Interlagos and tried out the advice you guys gave and I can see what you mean.

Finally broke 1:35

Just need seat time now to find more time in the lap.

Thanks.

Glad it helped. Bet you thought we was pulling your leg. Next thing you need to learn will be minamizing your coasting time. Learning to carry a bit of throttle into the bend so the backend stays balanced and allows you to come out of the bend progressively adding throttle as you come off the steering. Allowing you to gain more speed on the next straight.

Just done my first Lotus race. I was running 3rd most of the race until I blew my engine into a hairpin with 7 laps left to go.. everything was going to well up until then as well. 0 incidents and I was doing 1.45s the whole race.

Lining up on that grid with all those cars around you is pretty damn scary, nevermind going into the first turn :p Never concentrated so hard just to keep the car on the road during a race before. Crazy stuff.

Did the British GT league race earlier, a mixed combo of Corvettes, Riley DP, McLaren and Ford GT's, the Rileys and McLarens were supposed to be weighted to create 2 evenly matched classes but I think it was a bit too far.

I was in the Corvette and came 3rd overall, 1 spin out of Druids (Brands GP) in an hour of racing was better than I'd expected, not done any real road racing in ages and not driven the Corvette in a hell of a lot longer than that :p

I had an invite to join that league, but I don't have to time to commit to it at the moment.

Yeah, not sure how much time I'll spend on it and how often I'll race, I now do UKI/League races on Thursday, Friday (2, back to back), Saturday and Sunday, doesn't leave much time for anything else :p

I don't know if I was just unlucky, but there seems to be a higher standard of driving in the Grand Am series than the GT challenge series. Last night at Oaky was a complete wreck fest after bottom hairpin. Managed to avoid quite a few cars, but a car in front got punted into a stranded Corvette which then hit me as I tried to tiptoe past. Damage was too severe, even after a ten minute stop to carry on so I disconnected.

Cost me -99 iRating.

Had a couple of races like that in the GT challenge series since he start of the season, yet non in the Grand Am.

I think it's just one of those days. Both races I tried today had crashes at the first corner. I was 4th in the first corner and a guy in front went off. Rather than stay off and let the group past he tried to get back on the track knocking me off in the process and taking out a load of the others too.

Second race I've never seen so much carnage. The no 1 guy lost it on the first corner and did a 180. Wasn't intentional but everyone ploughed into him lol. I managed to get past but didn't last long after that as there were lapped players all over the place and people coming out of the pits. Was actually pretty funny - well you have to laugh sometimes or you would cry inside.

I lost a lot of points today but meh I don't play for the iracing points as if I did I would get too angry when people do stupid stuff. Well I'm trying not to care anyway haha
