Just gave blood again, do you?

Never done it, always mean't to.

I've glanced at the website but there isn't any slots near for afew months, do i just stroll in on the day or need to register etc before hand to tell them i'm arriving.

I could just ask my nan these questions i suppose lol

just got out of hospital and they have had enough of my blood to last a lifetime.

gonna keep what i have for a while.

serious question. what pre screening will they do on me if i volunteered and what time scale is it on

I have Ulcerative Colitis and the medication I am on doesn't allow me to give blood. Which is a shame since I have no fear of needles and my blood type is O-.

Lots of respect for those who donate.

I never gave blood because I got ill at 15 and wasn't meant to give blood for seven years (increased white cell count). Everytime the blood van for work comes around it always seems to be booked up within seconds. I really should make more of an effort.

Failed at platelet donation today, they could get blood out but it wouldn't go back in again so they had to stop.

I had the same the time before last: return pressure too high. I only made it through two cycles before they pulled the plug. Makes a change from the usual "Access Pressure Too Low" errors. Essentially, I just get too relaxed: I always struggle to stay awake, and getting sleepy drops my blood pressure so much and the draw stops.

More annoying than anything else, my arm aches but that'll be gone in a day or so. I'll be back (albeit having to wait a little longer this time), have my next session booked :)

Just a quick nod and thank you to those that make the effort to donate. I have severe von Willebrand's Disease (a type of Haemophilia), as do my 11 year old daughter (mild) and 17 month old son (very severe). Without blood donations, we would not have the plasma derived factor treatment that keeps us alive during trauma/operations/bleeds.
To date, I've had the equivalent of 1500 transfusions, so I have enormous respect to those that inconvenience themselves to give a little now and then...

Who knows, some of you may be in my system right now... (sorry!) :p

I used to. But having had a transfusion in 1996, they don't want my blood anymore. Seems they might have given me CJD and they don't want to pass it on.

Moo.

When did you last check about this? AFAIK they now consider the problem over, and as I remember the consent form no longer asks if you have received a blood donation.

My donor heath check for next week and this website say differently.

The reasoning behind it is many people may have CJD but there is not a simple test for diagnosis (brain biopsy is the current method), therefore if you have had a transfusion there is an increased risk that you may be a carrier.

Donation 12 next week, I figure I use a good number of units at work each week so I might as well chuck some of mine in to the pool. I wouldn't mind doing platelet donation but the London sites would take me forever to get to on public transport and don't provide free parking (a bugbear of mine, I am happy to pay for petrol there and back, give up my time but for the love of god I am not paying for parking, your getting everything else for free, pay for my parking!)

Used to donate in the UK but they won't take my blood here in NZ (anyone who lived in the UK from 1980-1996 for more than 6 months isn't allowed to donate due to vCJD risk).
