Most Underrated TV Show?

Speaking of great dialogue, The Unit is another one that's very underrated, barely anyone I know has seen or heard of it. It's got some of the best dialogue of any TV show I've seen, really has an authentic feel to it. The wives' storylines get a bit annoying at times but it's easily forgiven.

Yup The Unit was excellent, easily my favourite proper military Tv show (Band of Brothers doesn't count as it was a mini-series). Excellent action and dialogue, just a shame high production costs mean't we didn't see a final season before it was wrapped up.

The Unit had me in stitches whenever I watched it for some reason. It's the only TV series boxset i've bought and refused to finish.

I just found it so 'MURICAAA'. Don't get me started on the wives. Jesus.

It annoyed me when they changed the opening theme in seasons 3 and 4, the original was so much better. They were clearly trying to push it away from being a show just for guys though, as it generally coincided with the wives' storylines getting more prominence.

That, and the way that Red Cap was seemingly always delegated to office duties or decoy roles in missions, rather than taking an offensive role like the rest of the guys. Seemed like a bit of a wasted opportunity.

For me.. Breaking Bad.

Not so much under rated but definetly under the radar.

The amount of people over in the UK that don't know this exists is shocking, its a superb program!

Yeh I'm still preaching to friends and family about it. Everyone that gives it a go, becomes a fanboy. Love it.

I was loving 'The Event' until it got cancelled right on a cliff hanger.

On the topic of underrated series and also ones that got cancelled on a cliff hanger....Odyssey 5.

Really enjoyed it and had been hoping for a Firefly-esque movie follow-up, but sadly looks like it'll never be concluded.

The original theme was the best yes (US Marine cadence's are awesome) but I did actually quite like the other theme, not as good but seemed to fit the show quite well. The wives storylines were never great, although the rare coin and jeep restoration ones were pretty good.

Yes I agree, I guess they didn't want to stir up the whole women on the frontline debate or disrupt the rhythm they had in the action sequences.

Man all this talk is making me want to watch them again.

Nathan Barley...I thought it was brilliant! Also, It got panned by most critics, but I thought Hyperdrive was quite good tbh. And there was a comedy show on about 5 years ago(guess), I can't remember the name of it, but it had the guy from Gavin and Stacey, and Chris O'Dowd in it. That was underrated.

People in this thread seem to be getting confused with the difference between underated and just unwatched in this region. justified and breaking bad for example ARE NOT UNDERRATED, they just don't get watched much in the UK bc they havent really been picked up by a provider over here regularly. The critics agree that both of those for example are steller , so why bring them up? completely renders this thread utterly pointless. its like saying that the Godfather is underrated just bc you might know a few people that havent watched it

agreed, The Unit was underated for a reason .. because it wasnt very good! especailly during the later seasons and if you compare it to The Shields scope and ambition it just felt that S.Ryan had run out of ideas.

The Shield is a lot more brutal and gritty though, it's not really a fair comparison because they aren't setting out to achieve the same style.

Another one for the list: Endgame. Don't think it's been shown in the UK, really great Canadian series about a Russian world-class chess player who ends up living in a hotel due to agoraphobia, after his wife is murdered outside. He ends up spending his time using his problem-solving skills to help with incidents that have happened both inside and outside the hotel.

Got a bit of a House vibe to it - the main characters both have similar personalities and it's quite humorous - but it's got more charm to it I think. Only ran for one season sadly.

I always loved Ed

Amazing and funny cast, great cameos, sterling soundtrack and stories that always left me feeling just a little bit happier afterwards despite my late teenage angst.

Launched (or not?) the careers of some very well known talent including Justin Long and Julie Bowen.

Many more of the cast I really wish were given more opportunities. Particularly Tom Cavanagh the eponymous Ed and Michael Ian Black as a bowling ally employee.

I gave up on that pretty much straight away, could see how it was going to go.

Same with Alcatraz.

Alcatraz was hilarious though.
Especially if you starting thinking the Jurassic Park theme through it whenever Sam Neill starts doing stuff..

Nathan Barley was fantastic. One of my utterly fav scenes in ANY TV Comedy show is when pingu jumps out of the window getting away from a masked and armed Nathan.. :D:D:D

But seriously, Hyperdrive? Oh dear... I love nice frost but I would really rather have hot things poked into private places than watch that drivel..

I remember watching that! Can't actually remember any of it specifically, but it was pretty good.

Operation GoodGuys. The Office style comedy but following a special police unit.
It's in my top 10 of all time comedies.Any programme that has David Seaman being beaten up has gotta be good right?

One show I think is underrated but I know some might consider distasteful is The Big C, I think its a blunt and different way to look at cancer, very much in the guise of 'if youve got lemons, make lemonade'. Big fan of Laura Linney in this...
