the reason i have picked this spec as i have limited room to have the pc as my room is pretty small. Oh and I am not sure whether to get windows 8 or 7 ? i have used both but personally prefer windows 7. Basically because I am not sure how to run games and such on windows 8 but i take it is pretty much the same

It's a bit mish/mash...

I assume its a gaming rig, if so the i7 isn't needed, the i5 is perfect, you wont notice the difference.

Haswell (the new intel CPU's) are out at the start of June so i would wait until then... but heres the basic idea (though replacing the 3570k/z77 motherboard with the 4570k/z78 motherboard)..

i will be doing some gaming but nothing too extreme, mostly wanting to build it to a be a fast and powerful but compact machine. Thanks for your help help though

I am not sure about the PSU, would prefer to have it modular so there is less cable management. seen a couple videos on line and that seems to be a problem in them.

Fair point,

I don't think it'll be a problem though as there won't be many spare cables. Also the prodigy has a lot of space so with some clever cabling it can look very neat.

If you did want a modular PSU this one is good:

also is extra fans required for good cooling? thinking of getting another one to sit at the front so there is two, one on top of the other, just to pull more air through

It's not really needed but you can.

oh and before i go off for the night, any of you got reasons for picking windows 8 over 7? just curious

No, I would go for 7. :)

max of £950

Give the windows 8 Enterprise (Evaluation) Edition a go for free on a 3 month trial. WIndows 8 is being updated later in the year (windows blue). You can bide your time and cash and buy the OS later in the year having made an informed decision

Oliver has a good point.

The TJ08-E is smaller than the 350D (very close to prodigy size) and will fit all the components in the 350D spec with ease.

The case is cheaper too.. :)

Needs tweaking to fit some RAM in the spec but the case is a nice alternative and I love that you used the windowed version :)

Hey guys really want to get the prodigy case. Really like the aesthetics of it. So the final build:
