Nvidia pricing is a joke?

at launch the 7970 was between £440 and £550 depending on model - the 550 one was watercooled , from here at ocuk.

yet they came down in price - the same cant be said for the gtx 680.

What you ^^^^ paid and what most others had to pay I suspect is quite different, none the less, £420 vs £820, right....

20nm yields almost double the transistor count, so there is potential for twice the Stream Processors on a similar sized DIE.
there are sites out there with apparently leaked slides suggesting 4096 SP's, 64 ROP's and 512Bit Bus. "no idea how accurate they are" but a realistic.

Nvidia have also claimed ~2x the performance on Maxwell vs the GTX 680.

AMD will probably also add Parallel Processing Units to the GPU. those same slides show 16 of them, probably AMD's own Jaguar cores as opposed to the ARM PPU's Nvidia claim will be on Maxwell.

Doubt it'll have a 512bit bus, but I'd like to eat my words on it. Costs an absolute fortune to produce and if it does have one, it definitely won't be cheap.

Don't want, don't buy.

Cannot afford, cannot buy.

Simple really. Not sure why people have this sense of entitlement with regards to being able to buy the latest GPUs as they come out on Day-1.

Fastest single gpu i bought was 8800GTX for £440 on day one & it blew the competition out of the water.

Taking into account some inflation I want the GTX780 to be £500 & blow the competition out of the water....but it doesnt. 20-25% more performance for 75% hike in price isnt good.

The usual story is that each year or so a new card comes out that is faster by 15-50% & costs £350-450. Now we have a card coming out that is 20% faster (not really huge) but demanding near 100% more in cost????

The GTX770 is even worse basically tipexing over the GTX680 name with GTX770 & new lick of paint. If it comes out at £300 then big thumbs up because that is technology improving i.e. performance going up/price comes down. But by the sounds of it its going to be £400 & compared to the the other cards pricing (i.e. TITAN & GTX780) these seems "ok", but reality is it isnt to most people.

As someone mentioned, I also bought a 4870x2 for about £360 on DAY 1. The dual equvalents are now £775+????? in a few years they are double the price. Being fair compared to other dual cards they are about 33% more but WHY?

I really think TITAN pricing has skewed the market. As a cheap CAD card or whatever it is it is cheap i guess. But it was also aimed at gamers mainly & IMO it is SERIOUSLY over priced compared to the 7970. Many might of bought it as the "cheap" CAD card but thats probably made nvidia think "Yeah GAMERS will pay this". I don't think many are willing to pay it. I think people are now buying through gritted teeth because its their hobby, thats fair point, but I think excluding the obvious feelings of "cheaper is better" I think most would agree they feel that it should have been priced the other side of £500.

As i've stated on other posts I really want to buy. Coming from a GTX580 I thought the GTX680 & 7970 was not worth upgrading to but the GTX780, in terms of performance is what im looking for. I was ready with my £450 but then nvidia have moved the goal posts asking for £550-600! I have that money, but i really cannot justify it as performance isnt worth it over a 7970 + 4 games (of which 2 i really want) for £300. Unfortunately i dont want the 7970 as i dont feel the extra performance in there for me.

So ultimately im stuck now either sitting 2.5 years later with my GTX580/560 for another 6 months+ or I have to pay out an unjust (IMO) amount to actually get an improved card.

Again, if TITAN came out at a fairer £600 (which I believe is a fair price), then the GTX480 could have come in at £450. The GTX680 after over a year could drop to a fairer £300 (especially in comparison to 7970), the GTX670 to £250. And I think everyone would be happier, including nvidia who im sure would shift more stock/ultimately make more money (maybe wrong here, but im sure they make the money on the cheaper cards selling in mass).

nv have added 20% or so to each fastest new card gtx480>gtx580>gtx680

and the price point came in at £450 or so.

the same with this - about 20% or so faster , yet its 25% more money

Doubt it'll have a 512bit bus, but I'd like to eat my words on it. Costs an absolute fortune to produce and if it does have one, it definitely won't be cheap.

No idea how expensive a 512Bit bus is, or not.

It is all just apparently leaked slides, but whatever they may or may not end up being, they can't come soon enough.

AMD wont and can't charge £800 for a single core GPU, when they come up with the goods it will drag the prices right back down to reality.

IF (and that's an IF) VI is ready , then AMD simply could be waiting to see how Titan LE pans out - Nv are doing a refresh (and if the slide is true , the 760Ti is coming in slower than ethe gtx 670) , then why would AMD launch VI? SI is mature and getting good yields and performance is within 20% of the Nv high end , at 85% less cost.

AMD gross proft margin is about 23% , whereas Nv is about 54%

AMD increase margin to the same as Nv and voila - that's your £500 card.

BUT I can see VI coming in more than SI is (and likely @ £550 as well) - DRAM prices have gone up and fabs are charging more in the race to the smallest

Everyone would LIKE it to be cheaper.

This does not mean it SHOULD be cheaper. Quit yah whining!

Wait 6 months and buy when prices drop. If you cannot wait, pay.

If the speculation is true, it's 70-80% quicker than a 7970...so that would put it around 30-40% quicker than a Titan. That's rather close to the 680vs780 comparison, the same card where $650 is too much!

That is a joke of a price and anyone who pays that is stupid!!! :D
