*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

That is damned odd. Next thing I would try is a different cable and PC/Laptop.

I know :/ I have just managed to flash this pre-rooted rom (I9505 Pre-Rooted Stock ROMs Odin/CWM [DEODEXED XXUBMEA) and it seems to have worked. Currently updating the apps. Is installing the custom recovery any different now that its rooted?

Can some one tell me, When the Google Edition S4 is released and eventually the rom ported over, will be able to then use ROMS like CM10.1 and PA with native support as the google edition will be AOSP?

Nope. In fact that proves the cable and drivers etc. I'm thinking more how you're getting into the recovery. Try installing ROM Manager and see if that will reboot into CWM. I'd bet the recovery is there maybe try a different one, TWRP is stable.

Weird. Just flashed TWRP again after flashing that pre rooted rom and now its worked. Strange. Maybe it was to do with my handset being 3 branded. Thanks for the help mate, one last question do I put the wanamlite rom on my removable sd card or internal phone memory?

Weird. I'd always go internal for a rom flash. Nandroid backups are fine to the external.

I really need to get my phone rooted now,...

Easiest way to root is to flash a pre-rooted rom from here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824

Pick:

Model: GT-I9505 (4.2.2)
PDA: XXUBMEA
PHONE: XXUBMEA
CSC: OXABMEA (MultiCSC - 8 codes)
Kernel: 3.4.0-768421 (30.05)
Build Date: 29.05.2013
Changelist: 768421

choose the below file

Pre-Rooted ROM: Downloads: <<< Hotfile >>> or <<< Android Host >>>

Use the Android host as its faster to download.

Once you have downloaded the ROM, put your phone in download mode and open Odin and flash the ROM as PDA.

Watch this video on how to use odin:

Looks good to me :)

If nothing else all my file sizes are the same as yours :D

Thanks again.

Anyone here have an unrooted Orange contract S4 bought near to release?
Just want to make sure I am on the same software version: JDQ39.I9505XXUAMDM

Not strange at all mate, had the same issue with a previous CWM recovery. Sometimes the right permission isn't granted to overwrite the stock recovery so when the phone reboots it goes back to stock recovery. Glad it works now anyways.

Thanks Kona, and this is for a pre-unlocked phone, yeah? Don't want to go losing my carrier signal!! :D

Will this lose any of my data? or will I get back what I had before, just rooted? Only 2 weeks inot my relationship with Android and have no ideas on backups/full syncs really :D

I can't get use JB Dom or the Rom. Its not the prettiest in a lot of the areas.
I'm going to install CM10.1.

I don't have an SD card as yet so what's the best way of installing CM as I need to wipe data coming from a different rom? Is there a way to install CM without an SD card as wiping data will delete the rom files from the phone...

When do you think I'll be able to install the Google S4 edition OS (rom I guess) on my S4 (On Three)?

Would it have to be rooted as banking apps etc don't work when the phone is rooted?

Ah now that jogs my memory. There's a 'security' feature which flashes the stock recovery back over when you reboot. The fix iirc was to flash CWM in Odin without Auto reboot, then pull the battery and go straight into CWM recovery. When you first exit CWM is comes up with:
Code:
ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.
Code:
- NO
- YES - Disable recovery flash
I think it deletes or renames a couple of files in /system. Maybe a carrier specific thing, I certainly haven't encountered it on my unbranded i9505.

Has anyone seen any news about the 32/64GB versions being released in the UK? I've been looking around, but I can only see AT&T and Verizon getting their hands on there models.

Really need to get a new phone, as my 3GS really is on it's last legs now :(
