Went out on my bike today and the gear changes sucked big time! At times it wouldn't change up to the big ring at the front, then it was skipping gears or not changing at all. Also the chain seems to be making quite a bit of noise. Is this normal for a new bike while it all loosens off?

It's my second ride since I picked it up brand new. I'm guessing/hoping this is why bike stores usually offer 6 week services?

Not right. It should be slick up and down all the gears with perhaps a little noise in the big ring big ring and small/small combinations which you shouldn't really use.

Take it back and have them sort it before it prematurely wears the chain and cassette.

Yep that was the case one my first ride. It was perfect and I always avoid big/small combinations.

Guess is where the problem of buying from Ribble comes it, it will probably cost me £20 in fuel to take it back up to their store. Would I be better off taking it to my LBS and asking them to look at it?

My back is still aching from my ride on Saturday, so clearly my bike isn't set up properly. Can anybody recommend a bike fit service in London? I don't drive so ideally it would be somewhere in the south east, so that I can cycle there and back.

It will be a 5 minute fix for a bike shop.

DIY in an hour if its your first time, but get the practice in and you will learn something :) There are lots of videos on YouTube which illustrate it well and are probably more use than Zinns book IMO.

Anyone else noticed their Assos bibs fading? I hadn't until I hung them up against some new ones, noticeable greyish after 6 months of use, washing perhaps once a week at 30c and hanging to dry overnight.
