Apart from that. Does any one knows if Dell will put the "new" ATI card as well in R5 (or whatever they going to call it) We see the 780 now but where is 8970? I hope that will be similar situation like in current R4 generation that AMD will be just as quick as 780 but will costs considerably lesscompare to 780

VERY tempted. I take it this wouldn't have issues running most MMOs at high/max settings?

Tereu, seems quite a lot for a near-basic machine with the 7970, no? Earlier in the year they were that price with upgraded CPU and Blu-Ray. I'd buy it if it were £100 cheaper, lol!

Anyway, it will sure be interesting to see the prices of the new R5 when they hit the outlet. And yes, it would be great if they decide to have an option with ATI cards. We can't be having a Nvidia's monopoly!

Yes you might be right - it could be that they will up the price - just a bit because demand is so hight and people will still buy it .... (myself thinks better to w8 :) and grab 775/780/8970 and this matte screen ! finally)
I really hope that 8970 will be also an option. I was not watching the 7970 release but maybe some of you could tell if the R4 with it came straight after NV 670/680 or there was significant delay...

Get my daughters new M14x R2 on Monday after a 3 week delivery wait - she's very excited - was hesitant with the new ones coming out but the delay actually let me see what the R3 was like before sticking with the r2 - £300 dearer for about a 10% speed boost overall, no thanks.

Is it worth picking up an M17x R4 from the Alienware site while they're £300 off? Really want a laptop for gaming to replace my current rig, but I'm currently a bit out of the loop and don't know if it's worth it in comparison to other laptops out there (though I have always wanted an Alienware). Been checking the outlet but there's not much going right now.

I run a very similar machine and play wow at ultra setting, maxx AA/AF etc.

In orgrimmar I get 20ish FPS, but everywhere else is fine, and ranges from 40 - 250 FPS

I love my alienware, the build quality is bloody fantastic.

Probably now. I am thinking of getting R4 or new when it will be available to use mainly for my WOW machine :) (will be evicted from my small gaming room in the near future ...DOH! )

Well up to you isnt it?
I think that at least refurbished once should work better because they usually were sent to customer and maybe were sent back due to some problems and after sorting them Dell re-sale?
Anyway got R4 in the basket with 7970

Again not as cheap as before but still £985.54 is a good price

Does anyone know how Nvidia's new 770 stacks up against the previous 675 (which was basically a rebadged 580, no?). If there's not much difference, I'm just gonna wait for a good deal for an R4 as they'll be cheaper and easier to get in a few weeks/months.

That's more than I currently get, so that's a good start :p yeah their quality does seem great (that and they look awesome), becoming increasingly tempted to just take the plunge and buy one.

That does seem like a pretty good price, I'm only mainly wanting to play MMOs and a select few other games on it so I'm not looking into getting anything overkill. Has anyone had any experiences with refurbished models? Also, does anyone know what the difference is between the M17x and the "New Alienware 17" they have listed on the site here (I mean apart from the specs :p)?

I believe the main is the chassis uses more anodized aluminum and screen is anti-glare finally :)
But also for me - shame that the grill vents ad the front are gone :( does not look as much as a space shuttle anymore :P hehe

Do it, or hold off and get the next gen (which I'd probably do if in the market right now for an AW machine).

I wouldn't pay the current full whack for one, certainly an outlet model.

Heck, my model is third hand and bought from the MM, but it's in pristine condition!

I've gone with buying one from the MM, genuinely can't fight the urge to buy one of these anymore :p

Congratulations on your purchase, you shan't be disappointed :)

Thanks! :D Well I'll be buying it on Wednesday (payday, woo!), but I feel like a kid at Christmas. I've wanted an Alienware laptop or PC for so many years, so doubt I'll be easily disappointed!

So anyone here got one of the new Alienware models at all ? Really interested to hear what you think.

Some of the reviews I've seen seem to praise them (well the 17") which is the one I'm interested in getting.
