Could you Torture?

I raise this topic often with many people in a variety of environments and for the most part I have found them willing to understand my point of view.

The topic covers many areas such as why are there Bishops in the house of lords making having their beliefs infringe on law to the savings made economically and therefore socially if the country was to renounce its Church of England status and disarm.

It is wrong for any country to align itself to a religious banner, especially when the majority of that country does not see itself in any way religious.
May white god bless you! :D

How are you misunderstanding this? The topic has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with torturing your fellow humans.

You are 100% welcome to your beliefs regarding religion and in fact these days, a huge number of people agree with you...but you wanting to torture people for any belief is the issue....and if you havent mentioned these urges to your mental healthcare professional, i suggest you do so.

I am not misunderstanding the topic but my views on religion are inextricably linked to my strong views on causing pain to others.

They have been torturing for centuries/millenia so I see no problem in returning the treatment.

I dont agree. Many of us have very strong views on religion but wanting to torture religious people is something completely beyond the pale.

Wanting to torture an individual who has actually tortured others is one thing, but wanting to torture millions, even billions of innocents who are doing nothing but trying to live good lives is kind of unusual. No?

Churches and religious institutions have done some terrible things in the past but the vast majority of religious people have dont nothing wrong at all.

Anyway..if i believed you were serious id suggest you seriously get help. but this is the internet and its all bluster to try and look cool i imagine.

Do you mind me asking how religion has effected you?

Religion has not damaged me personally in a direct way but seeing the world as a whole I believe religion is an evil even greater than Hitler/Pol Pot/Stalin/Mao Zedong/Idi Amin together.

They have dealt out enough pain, torture and sorrow and with all things that must be exterminated sometimes you throw the baby out with the dishwater but quite often it is a sacrifice worth making.

Line me up a million religious people and give me enough ammo and I would shoot them all without blinking. But personally I believe extensive torturing and prolonged pain would be a better message to send out to other groups that you reap what you sow.

Given there is nothing really stopping you walking to your nearest church/mosque/synagogue and cracking out the thumbscrews and jumpleads on a few religious people, why haven't you acted on these thoughts?

Do you just have no actual conviction in your 'belief' that all religious people deserve to be tortured?

Everyone else has been saying 'if my family were hurt etc.' so it makes sense that none of them would have had cause to actually do it - their families haven't been hurt.

You've said you could and would torture all religious people, so why haven't you?

Just because there is a mass delusion, doesn't mean they need torturing. In essence they are torturing themselves.

My being in a wheelchair doesn't make it easy to physically torture people though things might change in the future. The OP was asking if we could torture not will we.

Because he's full of **** and a kid on his daddy's computer trying to act hard?

I'm 43 years old and haven't seen my father since he ran out on us when I was younger.

So in fact your answer is "you couldn't", you can't because you're disabled.

If you could, you apparently would have done.

If I had some assistance I would be able to and would take great relish in doing so.

Would you care to help?

No, i'm normally too busy to fit torture into my schedule unfortunately.

I assume should you ever find yourself no longer in need of the wheelchair as you allude to above, you'll embark on an epic torturing spree, given the wheelchair is the only reason you cite for not having carried through already?

...

While I'm in favour of secularism for law making and generally for government according to the most recent census the majority of the country does still count themselves as religious. You can argue that it's cultural Christianity that makes up much of that result but that's simply an interpretation.

Just to check - you despise religion and what it has done to people but you want to perpetrate some of the worst excesses carried out in the name of religion? That doesn't strike you as at all incongruous or self-defeating?

Why was OP permabanned then?

Seems to have started quite a valid in depth discussion.

Returnee as Zefan said earlier in the thread.

//edit and in answer to the original question - I don't think I could deliberately torture someone, at least I'd hope not but given the right (or wrong) circumstances it's possible that I'd do something deeply regrettable. Experiments have shown that otherwise normal and moral people can do quite horrible things in specific circumstances and I can't say with absolute certainty that I'm any more morally sound than they were.

But personally I believe extensive torturing and prolonged pain would be a better message to send out to other groups that you reap what you sow.

Presumably this means that you accept that you yourself can, and should, be tortured? To reap what you have sown. You are putting yourself on the very worst level of religion and thus should be treated the same way you plan on treating them. Correct?

Also, do you apply this punishment to all religions? Including those who worship local natural gods and have hardly even come into contact with other people, let alone influenced them in any way?
