That's the point though, is it faulty? I'm trying to find out. I'm saying if this is how they are, then I don't want the hassle of RMA-ing it to get one identical obviously as it's just how they are. Of course I will let them sort it.

Thanks I mailed your trust. I did not mean to sound like a &*^& above. I just want to get this resolved is all.
Thanks

You didn't come across as a wang. I thought I might as well direct your question to someone who can answer. I'll probably see him this evening so will ask then.

Nice one. It's a Shimano Zee Rear Derailleur the freeride one (as opposed to downhill version) which is running with an 11-36 XT cassette. I'd be interested to hear:

1: Is the lever adjustable to make it stiffer?
2: Does "tightening" the clutch itself do anything to stiffness of the lever?
3: Has he come across a loose lever problem before with these new Shimano clutch type rear mechs?
4: How does he find the reliability of the Shimano clutch mechs and is the Zee one any more/less reliable than XT and/or Saint?
5: Does it sound possible that the lever would shake itself loose on the trail?
6: Does the very act of dropping a chain do anything that would cause the lever to turn itself to the OFF position?*

* in question 6 I should expand:
I am deliberately running no guide on the front to see if the rear mech with clutch can retain the chain on its own. I suspected it could not, but I cannot be sure because it seems too unreliable to have faith in the clutch even staying engaged due to the "lever problem". However, this only became a noticeable problem last ride, which is when I took the guide off. Coincidence or related... :confused:

1. Not sure but my lever becomes stiff before it engages to clutch.
2. Wouldn't have thought so as the lever just engages the clutch. Does the mech feel stiff? can you pull it forward easily? Add more tension to the clutch if it isn't needed will just add more resistance when shifting
3. Dont work for shimano :p
4. From word of mouth on the net the Zee is very a good mech
5. I've never experienced it rattling loose. Riding very rough dh.
6. Nope, though ive never dropped a chain. As far as i know it only disengages with you move the lever yourself.

As I said I don't work for shimano or anything so all the above it from my own experience and from what I understand from reading on the net. Running a Saint mech myself

Thanks Spud. I chose the Zee because I liked that it was short cage over the XT and I did not want to pay extra for Saint, plus I don't think Saint at the time did could accomodate a 36 rear.

2. Yes, the rear mech is working totally fine as a clutch and shifting when the lever stays in the on position.

I've installed the Invisiframe kit to my frame, it took about 3 hours but it was actually really easy. I've only ever used Bike-tape before (from biketart), the stuff you get from Invisiframe seems slightly thicker and much more malleable when you add heat (hair-dryer), I don't have many air bubbles and it was really easy to move the tape around once it was applied. It really is nearly invisible (boom-tish), I keep forgetting that it's all over the top tube, downtube, both seat and chainstays, you really have to look for it to see it!

I don't have any close up pics and there isn't much to show yet but I've got this far :p

Once my headset cups get pressed in tomorrow I'll get it together. I have to say I'm really liking the understated look, the matte grey/silver is really nice looking in the flesh.

Madison say to just RMA the rear mech to retailer as they think it sounds faulty. Hmm.

EDIT: Only ridden with this mech 5-10 times, rides are 2 hours each. Mixture of x-country and some downhill but nothing radical.

Itchyballs;
Here's a picture or two of what I was on about with my Atlas Cranks and frame;
*Snip*
The little bit of flex when I first had her caused it to rub... seems ok now though (as in it's rubbed as much as it can).

You have loads of room there :p

I have a very similar clearance on my sx with somesort of truvativ crank. Been like that for 3 years, my heel had rubbed through the paint on the chainstay but other than that it's not been an issue.

They're difficult to get hold of so I didn't really have a choice ... Lemon/Lime aka bright bloody yellow! :o

Should look cool though with everything else black. Going to have to up my skills mind to match.

That looks sexy as hell.

Will defo be doing a build for my next bike, actually so excited and I've no plans on doing it for at least a year or so yet!

BaJ that colour is wicked, everyone says it looks much better in person.

You're not kidding! I'm over the moon with how awesome it looks.

The pictures make it look very yellow but I now see why it's named Lemon/Lime, there's a really nice green tint to it which doesn't really show .

Got a full SLX kit on the way, already have a wheelset and other bits so just need a fork now. Anyone seen Revs on offer about? I've seen some dual air ones on On-one but they seem an old model, would prefer the solo if possible. Running out of cash mind.

So excited to get it all built up, need to take my time mind as it's my first bash.
