*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

can someone recommend me a spare battery for the s4. im traveling soon and wanting to know what brands are good reliable.

anker or zerolemon.

I bought the anker double pack with the charger from amazon, worked perfectly so far. I actually think they're slightly higher capacity than the standard battery.

How many updates have branded phones received?

Are sim free phones not even on the version, which fixed/improved a lot of the problems such as the lag, screen smearing etc.?

Embarrassing & annoying how this is becoming the norm with android phones now, further reason to move to nexus devices (if you care about support/updates) :(

Think I'm going to have a go at flashing the latests FW tonight.

I have a bunch of apps disabled, I assume I'm going to have to go though and disable it all again once its been updated?

It's so easy you can't get it wrong. Just have a good amount of charge too.

I can't 100% remember but I think the disabled apps remain disabled. Are you going to root too? I recommend it as you can then install ad blocker and ti-backup (use this to disable even more apps that you can't using the stock app manager)

Half of me wants to root, but i use the Barclays app a lot, and that don't work on rooted devices.... :(

Thats the only thing putting me off really.....!

Its handy! Mobile pin sentry and all that....

That and Sky Go not working are the only real reason to me not to root.

Maybe i should just deal with it....!

Is there anything else that doesn't work after rooting?

They are the only 2 apps I hear about afaik. Try rooted, and then You can always unroot when you want to by flashing a stock unrooted rom.

Fair enough, Yeah thats what I'm thinking. if I do root Foxhound will be the next thing to go on there.

Have you got an S4 now mate?

What firmware are you on? Have you used Odin before?

Yup, I grabbed one when they were £450 on Amazon:cool:, basic no update sim free MDM:(:mad:, should be an a on the end there, might have made the wait nicer :o

I used Odin over a year ago when I rooted the Note and then mobile Odin again on the Note, my fave ultra easy Cursed4eva method, I reckon I'll pick it up again after watching a Vid or 2, I want to put the German updates on, I have mobile Odin pro and I'm happy to buy worthy sw to support devs and make life easy.

It's got to be better, easier and less frustrating than updating with kies.

I intend to root and abandon sky go and Barclay's, they'll still work on the N4 which I've relegated to spare and take out if I suspect I'll wana watch TV.

Kies is so slow, bloaty and buggy its unreal sometimes.

Odin is excellent and so easy to use, just need to make sure your using the right version to what your flashing. I really recommend you updates via odin instead of waiting for the OTA.

I'm running on MEA still (Foxhound 0.5). MEA made the S4 more consistently fast, so all updates post MEA should be good.

Ah I see, is that as PDA too?

Yes.
