How can they get away with this? they do not even know who lives here......
They are presuming I have a TV and making it sound like they are attempting to take me to court when
hYWEy2l.jpg
I have not had a single visit from tvlicensing
They do not know who I am.

although next doors satellite dish is on my part of the balcony which makes it look like I have sky....

I'd laugh if they could tell which balcony was mine and took me to court based on that without noticing the wires goto next door lmfao.........

I find it as backwords as the DLVA or someone assuming I have a car and threatening to take me to court for driving without a license , not owning a car with insurance, no mot or road tax......

BTW. NO I AM NOT GOING TO TELL THEM WHO LIVES HERE AND TELL THEM I DO NOT WATCH TV TV SO THEY CAN SEND SOME MONKEY AROUND TO INSPECT MY FLAT AND BROWSE ALL OF MY PC CHECKING COOKIES/BROWSING HISTORY AND ****

WHAT I LOOK AT ON MY COMPUTER IS MY BUSINESS it's almost like a diary to me

So you've ignored previous letters and now getting in a rant when they are pushing for an answer?

Why not just write them a letter and tell them that you don't have a TV? Why create stress for something that'll take minutes to sort out?

What do they say are 'the only ways to stop this investigation from going any further'?
I guess they can't really start one if they don't know who lives here?

I don't see them getting a warrant from a court with no evidence?

Even if they do it's not a criminal matter and the police are only allowed to keep the peace and not enforce it?

Either way I'm doing nothing wrong unless they count watching on demand movies and on demand programs on my parents skygo account

I was just interested as to what they would list.

Up to you what you do, as you say I don't think they'll be able to force the matter. Just depends how much of this sort of threat you want to put up with. Personally I'd prefer to get it stopped if I could, although I'd not be keen to actually let them in my house to snoop around.

I just phoned them up and told them I didn't watch tv the other day, even gave me £60 back. Kudos. They couldn't be more ok with it.

How on earth do some of you get into situations like this?!

Surely just go to http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/what-if-a-tv-licence-is-not-needed-top12/

I don't own a TV. When I moved into my flat over 2 years ago I just filled out the online declaration form and jobs good. no letters, no hassle. Just a yearly reminder in the post to update my details if circumstances have changed (i.e. If I now own a TV and am actively watching live broadcasts).

Also whats with the "I'M NOT GIVING MY DETAILS OUT TO THEM. THEY DON'T NEED TO KNOW WHO LIVES HERE" carp? If anything that's just making you look more guilty? If you are truly doing nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about by declaring you don't own a TV and don't watch live content lol

this is the 3rd one of these if I remember right ;) they are worded slightly different but ,mean the exact same thing just this one tries to make it more urgent like they are desperate to know my identity.....

is it illegal not to own or watch live tv?
Is this a police state? because the tv licensing people certainly make it sound like one....

If i write to them they will know who I am and I do not want them to know my identity it is non of there business who I am aslong as I do not own a tv license or need one

As I said they would want to send someone out to check I'm not watching live tv on the pc.
Whilst even IF I were I could just delete the cookies and browsing history or dual boot but disable the dual boot option so it's completely hidden to outsiders. i could even disconnect the hhd for the other os...

I believe you can determine a lot about a persons browsing history and I would rather keep mine like a diary private without feeling like I need to secretly remove it onto a usb stick and put it back after some peon has been and spied around my flatt

Stupid question....

So if you had a TV receiver box that somehow delayed the transmission without the use of recording buy say 10 minutes so you are always watching things 10 minutes after they have been transmitted you wouldn’t need a TV Licence?

You'd still be receiving the content live though through the receiver box even if you aren't watching it for 10 minutes so I suspect yes

No-one is getting into a "situation". They are all just receiving the standard sequence of template letters (which make it look like some sort of official process is underway).

I think the thing that really annoys people is that they shouldn't have to tell TV Licensing that they're not breaking the law.

The box would still be picking up the live stream so no.

How do you propose that you delay a live feed by 10mins without the use of recording that live feed? :p

Well they clearly are (OP is my example lol). You and others may not like it but simply informing them if you don't have a TV stops them hassling you like the OP is finding.

It's a fee that everyone is aware exists and should pay if they watch live content. To me it's just common sense to let them know I don't own a TV in the same way I would let them know if I did. Assuming you don't watch live content and don't need a TV license just because you haven't said you own a TV just seems silly and leaves the system even more open to abuse than it already is.

These letters just circulate ignore. I had about 7 variations of these. They turned up at my house I even offered them in but they said that's fine and left when I told them I have a TV for ps3 and DVDs, buy feel free to check the Ariel and sat cable connection and if the TV was tuned in
