Ultra deep rims on a skinny framed bike don't do it for me. 50mm or less on a conventional road. Deeper rims for the aero and TT frames!

oh so they have normal sized spokes? I just assumed because it's carbon the rim had to be thicker , Do they use carbon spokes to?

There are some wheels with carbon spokes but only a few.

Spokes on normal wheels act under tension though, they pull the rim towards the hub. You need a material with some elasticity to do this; steel works perfectly well.

Carbon spokes act as a solid pillar so it's very different forces at play.

my issue with carbon rims is that they are so stiff. They don't flex much and so you feel every bump (or I did).

Edit: 16 stone is well within the weight limit for a road bike:http://39stonecyclist.com/

Time will tell, out for a ride on it tomorrow. Main reason behind purchase is I'll be building up a TT bike over the coming months so these wheels will get transferred over, if I don't get on with them it seems the second hand market isn't too bad for nearly new wheels.

New toy taking shape....

Found myself speccing up a build around the Cr1 Pro frame. Looking to have a second bike for winter as I don't like getting my nice white Wilier too manky. I reckon I can build quite a nice n+1 for about a £1000 (already have wheels I can switch and use. So wish I had bought one of the SL's ! anyone ridden a pro frame care to tell me how it is?

My good bike is a CR1 Pro and I love it.

Light, responsive, comfortable but still 'connected' to the road. It's not a magic carpet frame, but I'd only swap it for an R5 VWD (still regretting not getting one in Dec when they were half price).

Went to swap the chainrings, chain and cassette on the Scott tonight.

Turns out the BB is lumpy and I can't get the drive side crank out. Trip to the bike shop next week.

Give me a shout if you do go.

Wasn't that bad tonight, bit of a breeze which helped.

Too hot for me. That, and I'm off to Cannock Chase in the morning on the MTB. I'll let you know if I go to the next one. Also got the Cannock 100 sportive on Sunday.
