********* The Official GTA V (5) thread! *********

Rockstar are going to make a killing with gtav. Sell it on the current gen, then re release it on next gen and pc. I know a lot of people that are going to buy the game twice.

What's the problem with it?

I don't see why you shouldn't pay for an improved version of a game you like?

Because you've already paid for the game once. Don't get me wrong, HD re-releases of games etc are fine but those come years down the line, not months, and they're usually far cheaper than the initial release was too.

The issue I have is that every other developer (so far anyway) has announced their current-gen and next-gen games at the same time. So for example, I know I want BF4 and Watch Dogs, so I'll be getting those for the PS4.

If there is a next-gen version of GTA5 planned, they should at least say so now. Yes, I know it's business and they're out to make money, but I can't help but think it's rather dishonest to one moment say "Nope there isn't one", and then once the game is out and has sold millions, come out with a next-gen version which they'd evidently be hoping you'll buy all over again. It sets a rather uncomfortable precedent in my eyes. I don't like this idea of having to pay twice for the game that you should be getting in the first place.

If they do decide to go next-gen, I'd be inclined to buy a PS4 copy second-hand, as I really don't see why they should get my money twice for the same game within a relatively short period of time.

But its GTA, arguably the one game from the one developer who deserves it most. They've not sold out to the churn it out yearly brigade.

+1, one of the very few to still have some passion for the games they make, although they are buckling to the greed (understandable)

I'll only re-buy it on next gen if DLC carries over, meaning they give you your DLC codes but for the new version. (360 to XB1. PS3 to PS4) if not no big deal I'll happily continue playing it on 360 and modding it to high hell when the pc version hits.

I have no idea why The Voice thinks Rockstar should announce GTA V for the 'next generation' consoles. It would be bad business with the game release so close.

I don't understand the issue over buying it on this generation of console and the 'next generation', Is that not like buying a console game on PC? or buying a DVD and then the same film on Blu Ray?

I dont see the point of buying it again on pc or next gen if it gets released on them, just for some prettier gfx, the core gameplay will be the same and i never play a sp again when ive finished it, as my memory remembers where the important stuff is and storylines and there isnt really the same emotional impact playing thru the second time. Maybe see a glimmer with pc due to mods but not enough to justifiy spending the cash.

My post explained this. As I've already said, other developers have already announced next-gen versions of their games. Granted, they seem to be aiming to release their current-gen and next-gen versions quite close together (although until we have next-gen console release dates, we won't know). GTA5 is clearly going to outsell pretty-much any other game during the next 6 months, so I'd be left wondering why they feel the need to then dupe people into paying for the game twice. Even EA seemingly wouldn't stoop that low.

Not really. I think most would consider the PC to be a separate platform entirely whereas the majority who buy an Xbox One or PS4 will already own a 360 or PS3; it's the reason there's often some desire for backwards compatibility. It's not the same as buying a DVD and then a Blu-ray release either, unless the DVD comes out 6 months before the Blu-ray while the distributor states that there are no current plans for a Blu-ray release.

Unless you enjoy mods no, but for a lot of people that is why they re-purcashe it on PC it adds a thousand new ways to enjoy the game. asnd one hell of a laugh

Oh god, Rockstar are worse than EA for not telling you they might release GTA V on the next generation consoles.

EA & Activision are huge, huge companies that have huge budgets and huge teams working for them, of course they can announce their games for multiple platforms. Rockstar are not near this huge.

I don't think Rockstar are 'duping' people either, they've only talked about what they're doing with the current generation and how they feel there is still life left in this generation.

I think it would be stupid from a business point of view and from the company themselves, they've said for a while now how they feel this generation still has a lot to offer.

I think you're just hung up on this, however nobody is forcing you to buy it on release, this generation, again on the next or again on PC.

Well, the xbox and PS3 are different platforms?.

I don't see the fuss with backwards compatibility, that's another discussion though.

It is the same as buying a DVD / Blu ray. The PC version 'if' released, will have improvements due to the higher capabilities of the PC.

This is all a storm in a tea cup, much ado about nothing.

Rockstar release the game on 360/P£3, awesome.
Rockstar release the game on the XO/PS4, awesome, nobody is forcing people to buy it again.

I enjoy playing games so I do replay them, I've played GTA IV through many times on PS3/360/PC.

The PC version offers more than just better performance and nicer graphics. The PC modding community are brilliant and they extend the games life span.

Nobody is forcing you to pay for the game again, but many people will.

You're contradicting yourself; if it's bad for business to announce it now because fewer people would buy the current-gen version, then that can only mean that they'd be hoping people will buy twice. The alternative is they show their fans a bit of respect and actually announce that there will be next-gen versions later down the line and at least people then know what to expect. Would it really hurt initial sales that much?

As I said, the game is blatantly going to outsell BF3, Watch Dogs etc.

I think you're just hung up on this, however nobody is forcing you to buy it on release, this generation, again on the next or again on PC.

I'm well aware of that, thank-you, freedom of choice is something I learnt quite a while ago. Doesn't however change the fact that it's rather difficult to make an informed purchase decision when the information is potentially being held back. Why do you keep mentioning the PC though? I haven't.

It is the same as buying a DVD / Blu ray. The PC version 'if' released, will have improvements due to the higher capabilities of the PC.

It's not though, because it's the timeframe I take issue with. I don't know how else I can explain it; I simply don't like the prospect of having (or rather, wanting) to buy the same game twice in a potentially quite short period of time.

Next-gen games are going to be expensive enough as it is and if it's anything like GTA4, GTA5 is a game I'm going to want to play for quite some time into the future. I'd much rather have the next-gen version in the first place though. Whether I'd be able to actually hold out that long is another story (hint: no chance), but at least we'd know what to expect. I'd feel much happier about it if they simply said that there is a next-gen release on the cards; it'd have minimal impact on current-gen sales and they'd be making that money back in 6-12 months time anyway. I'm not entirely convinced that millions more would actually buy the game again, but perhaps I'm giving people too much credit.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a bit of transparency from these companies, there's more to it than just the money. It's all just pointless speculation either way though, the only version that anyone can be truly confident will come out next year is for the PC. This is starting to feel like arguing for the sake of arguing, and I can't be bothered with that.

I haven't seen a single thing about Rockstar releasing this on the PS4 / XO, I have seen things about a PC version. I don't see why they need to announce it for the PS4 / XO to appease you, simply don't purchase the game and wait and see if it comes out for the PS4 / XO?

I'm not sure that they hope people buy it twice or are trying to dupe people. I would imagine they are just focused on getting the game out in time for the upcoming release date on the current generation, like they have been saying all along, if they delay the release to tie in with a next generation release, maybe, but I can't really see that happening. As I said though, I've seen nothing, absolutely nothing to suggest anything about a next generation release. It is just towards the 'end' of this generations life cycle, The Last of Us was another huge release at the end of the consoles cycle. Would not a rerelease for the PS4 help shift units? Would you be equally annoyed at that?

Rockstar don't need to be more transparent to you, unless of course you're a share holder or involved in the company in some capacity?

Next generation games might start out a bit expensive, but will fall back in line with current prices I think (hope).

You're welcome to have your outrage over Rockstar not telling you their inner workings or the potential future release on other platforms.

It is all speculation about it being released on next gen. However due to both next gen consoles being similar architecture to PC's the fact R* are going to make a PC version does give them the ability to port that to PS4 or XBOone.

Personally I overlap consoles when a new gen comes out so doubt I would get on next gen. The exception to that is if I get a bundle and there isnt another game I want then maybe would.

As I said though, I've seen nothing, absolutely nothing to suggest anything about a next generation release.

Neither had I, until Tingtangmakadingdong mentioned the survey he received from a retailer, which is what got me thinking. Of course, it could just be pure speculation on their part too, but it's an odd thing to send out either way. I'm still not really convinced there will be a next-gen version though, it's all speculation and there's no reason for it to diminish enjoyment of the current-gen versions. It still looks great.

In any case, I'm far more concerned with getting the game into my hands in 7 weeks time than arguing about technicalities.
