*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Deluded if you can't see it.

The sales figures speak for themselves, I understand you want to justify your purchase, but the worldwide sales speak volumes.

Its not deluded though? Yes global sales are not avoidable and I am not denying that they are poor. However I think you have misunderstood, this is not what I am debating.

My point is that I am happy with my purchase. And I am sure others out there are too.

£200 for a home/party console is not bad value considering other forms of entertainment.

Opinions eh? amazing how they differ so much.

With Nintendo having so much money in the bank why dont they just buy these developers/games or just go to EA et al and say 'Make games and keep the profit, we wont charge you a thing' - surely thats something they can absorb for a limited time to weather the storm?

People keep on about how Nintendo have all this money so will survive the Wii U, why dont they do something about it rather than allow the Wii U to tarnish a reputation thats been well worn til now? Are they really that happy to just let die a slow painful death - seems silly with all that money in the bank, obviously it takes time but money does talk...

Yep, they are like arse holes.

;) :D

- Console locks at launch (Nintendo's hardware quality has seriously taken a beating recently)
- slow, clunky OS at launch, and from what I understand still a little show

Yep, I'd spend £200 on that. NOT. I refused to buy one when my girlfriend was insistent on it.

Only another 7 million units to go until it reaches Dreamcast levels.

That's what I don't get either. Why aren't they battering us with games at the moment? They've had the cash to be working their decent IPs for a while now plus paying off 3rd party developers. Getting in bed with Platinum was a great move - Nintendo need to do more of that.

Which is great until something amazing appears on the WiiU that you can't get else where. My gaming time is precious, far more than the cost of a console, and I choose to spend it playing the best games available. Need a WiiU for that.

Serious for me the lockups and os speed were blown massively out of proportion.
I swear it did not bother even once.

As above its nothing to do with justification. Its doing everything i want it too and currently i'm have a laugh on it.
I'm just saying that peopel are so dumb they cant see that actually low sales at the moment dont actually matter.
When Mario Kart 8 is out, everyone will want one.

We are all foolish if we dont think the Wii U wont be 200 quid permanantly soon. Which is when it will count as a price drop.

I think Nintendo should buy an outfit like Capcom who seemed to have embraced western ideas when it comes to games but still has one foot squarely in Japan. That seems to fit well and if they decided to make certain games exclusives to Wii U it certainly would make it far more interesting (thinking their fighting games).

I dont think Nintendo should go and buy western developers straight away as that seems too much of a culture shock, they just need to really make their first party catalogue more than just a rehash of old loved characters, someone like Capcom would do that...

I think thats my main gripe currently, I love their firsty party games, but its never made me buy their consoles (I wasnt a big console gamer til the PS1), perhaps they need some new blood/ideas in their first party teams?

I bought a WiiU recently after being very skeptical at launch, i bought it purely to play Pikmin 3 and mario.

I have been pleased with my purchase so far and look forward to the rest of the nintendo line up between now and christmas.

The OS is a bit slow but perfectly liveable with. Someone like my wife wouldn't even notice it unless you mentioned it.

When games like Mario Kart are finally released there will be a tiny bump in sales which will go back down within a month. People just don't know and don't care about the Wii U. The majority of people who want the console for Nintendo games have already bought it. And sales this low really DO matter, you're the only one being dumb here if you can't see it. Things are only going to get worse when XB1 and PS4 are released.

Everyone is going to be busy with their ps4 and Xbox one. To care too much.

Now this is the kind of thing I don't understand with console wars, especially these days. Does no one actually see that games are actually far bigger than they were in terms of audience and consoles aren't really competing for everyone. Microsoft aims for the "gaming bros" where it is all football (apps), beer and shooting people. Sony aims for the more "hipster/mature" audience with more emphasis on indie games and their first party line up more deep in story than gameplay and Nintendo aims for gamers of yesteryear and re-hitting the younger generation the same way the NES/SNES did for us, again most of our Nintendo nostalgia will be for first party titles.

Don't get me wrong with the above, the lines still cross and the consoles aren't solely for the purpose of what I said above, but from the general view of the consoles that is what each company aims for. They would all love to tick every box and have the gamers, bro gamers, older gamers, younger ones and mobile scene but you have to focus in one area first and expand on that. I think the above is a good rough idea what each one is aiming for.

Even with all the above I think the WiiU is a big failure at the moment (I even own one!) and I can't see it making much money at all but hopefully it will tie Nintendo over with their fan games (which I'm not a massive fan of :p). I just don't see why everything has to be compared to one persons needs. It is almost as if peeps have to justify to themselves why they don't want a device by bashing it.

Sorry ZG002 this rant isn't aimed at you but the whole game/console bashing people seem to have to cling on to to try compare a product to make it perfect for themselves while blocking out the rest of the world.

When Mario Kart 8 is out, everyone will want one.

Who's everyone? Yes Mario Kart Wii sold over 30 million, did 30 million people buy a Wii for Mario Kart though? No, they already owned the console due to Wii Sports and Wii Fit, the Wii U doesn't have that advantage, yes Mario Kart is a very popular IP, but are people going to pay £300 to play Mario Kart? There's still not even a hint of an official price drop yet, just retailers dropping the price to clear stock.

I don't see it as a console fanboy thing. For me the different systems don't matter as I love playing games no matter what the platform.

This is the Wii-U thread not the Wii-U appreciation thread. Nintendo have just posted their sales figures so naturally we are talking about the results and what they might mean to us as gamers (especially those who have already bought a Wii-U) and to Nintendo themselves.

Another inferior port for the Wii U, likely because of Nintendo's substandard online infrastructure.

No online multiplayer for Batman Origins on the Wii U.

Batman: Arkham Origins Online Component Confirmed
Play as Batman, Robin or an Elite Member of The Joker or Bane’s Gang

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today confirmed that Batman: Arkham Origins will ship with a mode that allows players to take the franchise’s award-winning gameplay online to play with friends and foes. The online component blends the traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics and is in development by Splash Damage.

The online mode will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. The game is scheduled to launch worldwide Oct. 25, 2013.

The Batman: Arkham Origins Online mode offers players the chance to hunt as Batman or Robin against the most challenging opponents yet, friends and other gamers online. Players can also take on the role of a Super-Villain Elite and get a peek behind the curtain of what it’s like to side with The Joker or Bane as they establish their legacy by taking down Batman and Robin, and anyone else who gets in their way. Fans will even be able call in the ultimate reinforcement to help turn the tide in any match by playing as The Joker or Bane themselves.

Developed by WB Games Montréal, Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.

Batman: Arkham Origins will be available for the PS3™, Xbox 360®, the Wii U™ system, and Windows PC. Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate™, the handheld version developed by Armature Studio, will be available for PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system and the Nintendo 3DS™ handheld system. The game will release on all platforms worldwide on Oct. 25, 2013.

I find this a bit of a contradiction. You state people didnt buy a wii for mario kart, but your insinuating that they bought them for another game (wii sports) which is suggesting what the other poster said is true, games can shift consoles.

I agree that at the moment the RRP is too high for the majority of people to justify the cost for a handful of games. What needs to happen - RRP down to £200 and a good influx of games, much like what happened to the 3DS. I can imagine that would start to get it moving, i think they need to act soon before its veiwed as a sinking ship.

Wii sports was a new experience, motion controls for the masses, Mario Kart whilst a good game isn't a brand new experience that everyone wanted to try, Wii Sports was.

Anyway, release schedules have been posted for 1st and 3rd party games.

1st Party

3rd Party

http://nintendoeverything.com/wp-co...chedule-73113/nintendo_release_schedule-3.jpg

So between Pikmin 3 releasing and W101 in August 23rd there's no games being released at all and then nothing after W101 till October, what on earth do they expect people to buy or how on earth do they expect to keep momentum with that release schedule? Unless you count Pokemon Rumble which isn't going to set the world on fire with sales.

So lets theorise for a second here:

Wii U is a console (we are told) that belongs with the PS4/XB1, in 5 years time, how well will this console hold up with the others of this 'generation'?

Will we see Fifa 18/CoD whatever, and whatever other massive titles out on the Wii U?

what on earth do they expect people to buy or how on earth do they expect to keep momentum with that release schedule?

That's not a bad lineup at all. I'm playing Pikmin 3 at the moment and have Super Luigi waiting. 101 soon after that and possibly Wind Waker (i'm a sucker for that game). Donkey Kong in Nov and Super Mario 3D at Christmas. Monster Hunter being a constant. There isn't another platform that matches that (for my tastes anyways). Of the PS4 and XB1 there's one launch game I want fullstop.

That's the same population that laps up every iteration of CoD and keep McDonalds in business ;)

haha.

I guess everyone is to busy arguing/predicting the WiiU demise to notice my post.

Fallout game on WiiU = problem solved.

Just thought it was worth mentioning again. ;)
