*** League of Legends ***

^ First time watching one of his videos, informative to say the least.

On a side note, watching this makes me want to get better :D

I used to think I was better than Silver but after starting silver 2 and going back and forth between 1-3 and then dropping to 5 I realized I am not good enough to carry the game by myself and that's fine, now I just get carried in ranked 5's instead, a win there feels better lol.

True, a loss feels awful though :-(

Hey, guys.

I'm not here to cause arguments or to start fanboy wars just wanting to ask why you guys prefer this over something like Dota? I've been getting into dota recently and I'm really enjoying it and I decided to try LoL today and I can't see the appeal over dota? Everything about it is worse(microtransactions, free tps, free heals, no denying creeps/towers) are just a few things I noticed about it. Also fighting other champions doesn't feel rewarding, you don't feel like you are hitting your spells or doing damage.

Do most people just play this because they prefer the more casual gameplay and can't be bothered investing the time into learning Dota?

I cant speak for anyone else but as someone who never played moba before and being bored of current games i tried DOTA and wasnt too keen. Had a look at LOL on youtube but wasnt too keen as it looked a bit cartoony but since it was free i gave it a bash and dont know exactly what it was that done it, i got quite addicted to it, to the extent where i pre-ordered other games and still not got round to playing them.

I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that theres actually loads to this game where it might look very simple to start with but theres loads to it in reality. I actually really enjoy even watching it, the likes of LCS.

I'm playing both Dota2 and LoL trying to figure out which one I like. Leaning towards LOL at the moment. Reasons are.

Better shortcuts.
Hero Camera Lockon.
Hero's seem more interesting.
More Help for a noob.
Can use skills more.

Played original Dota when I was younger and enjoyed it but was never any good at it, then started playing LoL and really got into it, and have just stuck with it since, played 1/2 games of Dota2 but it was confusing and I couldn't be bothered with learning a whole new game, plus I have people I play with in LoL so I just stick with it.

What shortcut does LoL have and dota doesn't? Didn't really notice any in my small playtime and I felt like I could get more help on dota for a beginner due to all the guides and such.

Can lock camera too on dota, just hold the button or edit some things, not sure why you'd want to limit your vision anyway.

I don't like the clunky UI in game, the pause menu, people leave with no circumstances etc...

Dota is clunky. Heroes in Dota handle like boats. Turn animations make everything feel slow and clunky.

LoL = casual is a misconception. It's only as casual as you want it to be. I'm sure the LCS players earning salaries playing the game for a living don't find LoL casual.

I am almost at my promo in Bronze V (lol) at 88 points now purely from duoing with my mate from Bronze I. (he only loses like 4 points if we lose and gains if we win do he's happy)

We are managing to carry our teams to wins sometimes a struggle though, its amazing what two people can do when your on TS, just hope we don't lose a game now cos i lose a lot of points if we do :(

hopefully one more win and in promo :D

Why is Dota clunky? I found the LoL interface really confusing and clunky.

I think LoL is more casual compared to Dota, there is less to do and I feel like its a lot harder to get good at Dota than it would be to get good at LoL.

There isn't things like blocking, denying, tp scrolls, pulling creeps, block jungle camps, etc

Having to pay to unlock things makes me hate the idea of even playing LoL, if I didn't own a certain hero I was up against after the game I couldn't go play a game with them afterwards and learn what they can do and how everything works.

Like I said, turn animations. I'm not talking about the interface, I'm talking about how heroes are animated and how they move. LoL characters move more freely and feel smoother.

Yeah yeah, you can list things Dota has that LoL doesn't. I've heard it a million times. "Dota is better because there is denying". Denying is just last hitting, the fact that it's a tower or your own creep is irrelevant... it's just last hitting. The rest of what you listed are just things. It's so arbitrary to say Dota has these things therefore the game is better. I do not care for TP scrolls, pulling jungle creeps, etc none of this makes Dota more fun to me. I've played it and the game felt horribly slow and clunky due to the turn animations.

"Dota is harder to get good at than LoL" is simply a baseless claim that is impossible to quantify. LoL is one of the most played games in the world and something like 0.5% of players or less are in diamond league. Making such an unfounded claim when you are neither good at LoL nor have any idea what it takes to become good at LoL is laughable.

Yes the free champ rotation and IP system is a bit harsh on new players. I think pre-level 30 LoL is painful personally and I feel bad for people that have to go through it. Once you get to level 30 and you own a good chunk of characters, the IP system becomes mostly irrelevant.

I'm not saying that Dota is better because of these things just that I prefer it because of that. I was wondering what made people prefer it over Dota and I've had a few good answers telling me things I didn't really think about.

Thanks for the replies it helped me see why some people prefer LoL. Both are good games that are very popular so hopefully esports keeps growing :)

Leveled an NA account up a while ago to play with a friend, had enough for I think 3 champs which was nidalee lee and someone else I forget, and almost a full AD/MR/Armor page, then you need to extra rune pages, then jungle/support/armorpen/ap runes, then another 100+ heroes which takes years of grinding out, its stupid. Atleast dota give you all your heroes for free from the start and dont force runes and masteries on you to win 1v1s against people. Its not like they are even optional, the extra damage/armor/resist can win you the 1v1 or save you most of the time.

Yes, it's bad. It's also probably the first microtransaction based F2P model that worked. It had to be difficult and encourage you to spend money or the game probably wouldn't have taken off. The business model is one of the reasons LoL became so successful.

Comparing it to Dota 2 is iffy because Valve has an existing infrastructure setup with the Steam store/item inventory that they can implement into the game to make money. LoL didn't have that 3 years ago when it was first released.
