*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Ok couple more questions regarding installing ROMs.

Installed FoxHound earlier but wasn't really sure what options to pick during the install regarding messaging etc. Ended up without the text message facility so obviously I picked something wrong. Now flashed back to stock but might give it another go. Can anyone point me in the direction of explanations for the various options you get during the actual installation and which ones to pick?

For messaging i use Jelly Bean. If your unsure always select the Samsung / TouchWiz option. I mostly select Jelly Bean / Google as i like the stock android look. If you select Samsung then the default things will get installed.

See: http://www.foxhoundrom.net/ and select Aroma Installer. Will give you some info on there

Just tried flashing FoxHound a couple of times with different options ticked (including once with just the default options ticked) and every single time it boots I get "unfortunately, messaging has stopped working". Flashed back to my stock back up now. Might just keep it like this, not sure if this is really worth the hassle tbh.

Got this delivered this morning.

I just wanted to share pictures with everyone on the forum.

The blue is a very strange colour but it looks really nice, much different to the Pebble Blue S3

Might be worth while clearing cache and dalvik in the stock recovery. That may help.....

Have you tried installing the stock rom back on it turning it back to how it was out of the box.

I've just installed the CWM custom recovery and cleared the cache and also the dalvik cache on here (as stock recovery doesn't offer a dalvik cache) and I've just restored the phone back to factory and the Wifi works again for a couple of minutes until I attempt to update apps and it completely stops working again. I can feel a call to Samsung coming along

That is very strange
Was this problem always there with the wifi or only after you tinkered with it?

The problem only arisen 2 nights ago when I was trying to browse the web and the wifi just randomly disconnected and turned off, then I tried to enable it again and it went downhill from there. As stated I only updated to the MGA firmware when the phone popped up with the update a few days ago. Prior to this the phone's wifi always worked fine.

I'm currently back to stock now and I know for sure that this must be more than a firmware issue as I'm experiencing the same issue when running on the older MEA firmware too, not only that but the phone is also randomly rebooting itself when tasks are running in the background which to me is not a good sign at all even when running on stock. The phone itself is only just under a month old, I purchased from a reseller brand new via from that Rainforest website but no doubt I will have to go to Samsung directly to get it sorted out.

Have you tried taking a completely stock unrooted firmware and then flashed it with Odin to get you 100% back to stock? There could be dodgy modems etc at play here.

At the very least seeing as it's working I'd take this opportunity to reset the flash counter and unroot it if I were you.

Guys, what are the benefits to rooting my Galaxy S4? Got one the other day, ended up removing most of the widgets that came with it (Orange contract) as it was mostly cluttered.

Will it be faster? Will it allow me to get to Android 4.3 (I'm on 4.2.2)? What is really key about it?

root will allow you to instal Titanium backup so you can freeze bloated apps and make full app backup with settings and data.

root allows you to install apps like Adaway to block all adverts.

Custom recovery like CWM will allow you to install custom roms.

But you need to know some apps wont work on a rooted device, Sky go is the killer for me, for that reason alone rooting is not an option for me. Double check if your important apps will work first before you root, I made that mistake on the S1
