If you are set on the Kia you need to speak with other Kia dealers and see what deals they have that are more compelling. Don't tell them the deal you have, tell them what you need and by when and what will work for you and what won't. If you need a car by a date tell them the date and also tell them that you intend to fund the purchase 100% yourself and there is no trade in, so you can move quickly (same day) for the right deal. If you prefer unregistered to registered tell them, they might have unregistered stock cars so be flexible on spec, but tell them what it is you must have spec wise.

A good sales person will try to control the deal, a good customer will appreciate the seller needs to make a deal that works for them, but FFS make them work for it. Be prescriptive, tell them what YOU want and if they give you that what they will get, that being a quick cash deal with zero trade in.

Thanks for the advice. I've already spoken to our next nearest dealer who doesn't have any for 6-8 weeks (same lead time). Next closest two garages are the same company (Wessex) and beyond that it gets a bit impractical.

Had to Google because they don't list Kia on the homepage but it says it can save £1,900 (18,836.54 total). How do they work/where do the cars come from/etc? Could I use their quote as leverage with our dealer or is that like quoting Amazon prices to a bookshop?

The cars are dealer supplied - a Kia dealer, somewhere in the UK, will offer the car at that money. Broadspeed don't sell cars. Some dealers wont touch the price, some willl. Trick is finding the one that will.

No? Do we not have to visit to sign paperwork etc?

No, you don't.

Have a read of what I said there, this thread is moving quite quick so you probably missed it.

Make a day of it, you're getting a new car! I bought my current car over a telephone from a dealer 160 miles away. I bought it, paid for it and then arranged to collect it, they would have delivered it to me if I wanted but we took a day out, part of the fun. I have had dealers bring cars to my house to test drive, OK they weren't KIA's, but i got them TO WORK FOR ME.

Going back a couple of posts, because I know things easily get missed, Drive The Deal can do it for £18,836.54. They need a deposit to even order which seems weird seeing as it provides no details as to lead times etc.

Would the car then be delivered to our door?
Can this figure be used as leverage with our local dealer directly?

Yes, if thats what you want.

From Broadspeeds website:

New Kia Sportage for sale? You Do Not Buy your New car from Us; nor do you buy your new car over the internet. Simply research prices on broadspeed.com then call us when you are ready to buy. We introduce you to the dealer. Pay the dealer deposit by Credit Card so the whole transaction is insured. Buy the car as normal - pay the supplier direct (not us). Use your local franchise dealer for warranty and servicing work. There is NO WEB RISK!

Can this figure be used as leverage with our local dealer directly?

Yes.

Easier said than done. I work weekends (my next free Saturday is in October) and my girlfriend is NHS so does shifts. But understand your point :).

Don't email the dealer. Phone him up and talk to him about it. You are a businessman so presumably you can come across confidently and give the impression you know what you want.

You'll probably find the salesmanager gets invovled anyway - this is exactly what happened with my 335i. I wanted a deal, told him what I wanted to pay, the salesman said its the cheapest in any dealer, its priced to sell, no deal. I said thanks but I'm not interested then.

60 minutes later, the sales manager called, I told him what I wanted, job done.

There is no such thing as no discount - ESPECIALLY on a £20k car like yours.

You do sound incredibly naive (I am not being personal but you do) for someone running his own business, but be that as it is you need to take a few things on board.

You are buying, companies like people who are buying, they like them even more if they are like you, let's call that malleable. You are buying a highly commoditised item, so ensure you get the best deal on it. There are dealers all over the country who would like your business, so spend time speaking to a few to get some ideas of what the car can be got for, the overall deal as it were.

To be fair I wouldn't spend to much time as my time is far more valuable than the typically small saving I might make, but I would ensure I got things checked out and did a few bits of due diligence. You sound intimidated negotiating, nothing wrong with that as we are British but you really need to get that sorted out, both from this purchased and from running your business moving forward. It isnt about being a wheeler dealer, it is about being clear and concise in what YOU want the deal to look like to part with your cash. To do this effectively you need to gauge what is really workable and to do that you need a few views from the network of Kia dealers!

Excuses, find time. I work 7 days a week 14 hours a day.....well sometimes, but I find time when I need me time. It's your business, you work when you want and car dealers are open 7 days a week and again....

MAKE THEM WORK FOR YOU!!!

When can you do?

Roger dodger. Unfortunately I'm unavailable to have a decent chat during his working hours until Monday and I'd rather he have something to think about during that time. How's this?

"Hi **,

Thank you for your email. Our current car's situation has improved so we're not in so much of a rush as previously thought.

I've been shopping around and it seems other dealers are able to offer the model/spec we're looking for at ~£18,800 OTR. Obviously this discount surpasses one or two free required services and like I said we're not too worried about the paint and interior protection.

Is this something you're able to match? As you know we'll be purchasing the car 100% so we can move quickly for the right deal.

Best wishes,"

:(

You're not listening are you.

And whilst I know you guys are helping beyond "the call of duty" you're not exactly being specific. This is the first time I have ever bought a car worth more than £1,000 and I have no idea how this works.

Shall I email and ask him to call me at 7pm tomorrow then?

How can you possibly not have any time during the working day to make a 10 minute phone call? Do you not eat lunch? Do you not have a gap between clients?

A dealer desperate for a sale will call you out of hours anyway - some of the BMW dealers even have out of hour mobile numbers on specific cars. Those are salesmen that are working hard for the sales.
