Just gave blood again, do you?

I would give on the explicit instruction it would not be used on anyone who has even the remotest inklings of a religious belief same as I would give my organs but they cannot guarantee this so I won't donate.

I was going to donate my body to medical science as well but thought that someone religious might benefit from it so instead I've planned to buried in a cradboard box in a field with no religious connotations whatsoever.

Don't know if I can give blood with all the medication I am on anyway.

Can you give blood while receiving lots of medication?
 
Back again donating platelets, not that you are all desperate to know every time I donate but it gives the thread a bump ;)

I am still amazed at these restrictions and the sweeping statement it makes about people. ALL GAY MEN ARE DISEEEEEAAAASSEEDD!!

Also the whole prostitute angle, considering they are cleaner (and have regular health checkups) than your local bike down at the club... very much outdated.

I don't think it's making any generalizations about homosexuals. It's simply reflecting the statistics that by engaging in anal intercourse the risk of passing on the HIV virus is greater than sex vaginally. Then again, I don't understand why heterosexual couples engaging in regular anal intercourse aren't included on that list :confused:.

The above, when coupled with the fact the test for HIV can sometimes take 3 to 6 months for a positive result, suitably justifies the 12 month waiting period imo.

Went to give blood like 3 weeks ago. Painless as always. 4th time this one.

my work place did a group blood donation, but I couldn't participate since I had given a few weeks before.

Just reminding you to go give blood aswell.

I've got a rather big fear of needles, (and heights), and after a blood test last time, it would be like a torture for me. Huge respect for those who do it.

- My way of giving is being on the organ donor register. They're more use to those living, than being buried with me, that I am sure of. :)
 
Just checked with them again. Still not allowed to give blood. You would think that being clear of a disease for 6 years would be long enough, but apparently not :(
 
I do and never really had any issues but the last 3 or so times it has taken longer for the blood to clot and bleeding to stop afterwards - last time it was probably 15-20 minutes.. The nurses there said they hadn't heard of it before and wasn't sure what would cause that to happen so think I need to go to docs and have a blood test before I donate again!
 
I would do it but I guess I'm just too lazy to figure out where my nearest donation centre is. Heck I don't even know my own blood type. Though I hear we don't really struggle much with blood requirements compared to organs so I don't worry to much. Unless of course I happen to have a rare blood type in which case I'll feel like crap for not being on the ball at donating. I hear they always give out free penguins bars and juice so that's a plus!

Tell us where you live and I'll send you a list of the sessions nearby.

Blood stocks are ok, but they're not amazing. If you have a useful blood type like O- then your blood can be used for A&E and other situations, they always need more of that. If you're AB+ then you may as well not bother, but there's only one way to find out for sure!! :)

N.B. There isn't really only one way, but donating is the best way.
 
Not since it made me feel very weak last time :/

The thought of having blood extracted is making me feel weird thinking about it.
