Simple question, can I turn off the stupid bright green inventory icon that appears every time I play a game telling me I have yet another one of these poxy trading cards?

I have no interest in them, I am not going to sit and sell the several dozen I have acquired in the past few weeks one by one, neither am I giving them away because frankly that will just justify their existence.

All I want is to not have to deal with them in any way, that includes being distracted by a stupid green box making me think something interesting might require my attention.

By the looks of it, you cant opt out. We're stuck with them. :( Looks like i'll have to put up with. Not going to sell them as it'll be time wasting for me.

you could try ticketing valve but i dont think itll work, the positive vibe around them must far outweigh the negatives but you never know.
its a shame you cant spare the time to sell them though, they all add up, sell nearly instantly if priced right and could be used to save a few quid off another steam game whenever youve accumulated enough

It is a shame imo to see Steam becoming increasingly bloated with all of this nonsense. I just try to ignore the features that don't interest me.

On another note, lets try to stay civil people :)

At the OPs request, I've deleted pretty much everything in the thread that doesn't relate to the initial question. If you can't help regarding the question in the OP, please don't post.

wow train wreck thread :D

on topic, i don't think there is a way to turn off notifications (that I have found). If you find one please post it!

Well with each game they should go off within a few cards but there's no way to turn off mail alerts. At least you can quickly delete them (although I'd still advise to just sell them, you can make back a few quid towards your next game fairly quickly).

Notification settings (eg for people coming online etc...) are in the options I'm 95% sure nin.

I think some of them look pretty great, some good artwork I haven't seen before and only for the games you play. If you don't want them then just sell them and you get money. 'Money can be exchanged for goods and services'.

They're kind of annoying (though I've sold a few now for a small discount on a game or two (in work time of course - my own time is too valuable :p )). As there doesn't seem to be a way to turn them off I guess the way to be least irritated is to load up a game you plan on playing and leave it idling for a bit before you play (perhaps whilst getting dinner/whatever). That way at least you'll have probably had your maximum amount of card "drops" before you're back at your computer and won't be annoyed by new cards popping up all the time.

I wish I could somehow turn off this utter garbage as well.

They are pointless to the extreme for anyone aged over 8.

I have sold mine just to keep the inventory clear. No idea why people pay money for these things. How long do you have to idle to get the badges for a game?

You "craft" the badges with the cards.

So, say a game has a total of 8 cards for a badge, it will only "drop" 3 through playing the game.

The remaining 5 you would have to trade other cards for, or pay money for on the marketplace.

Once you've accrued the full 8, you "craft" a badge, the cards are used up, and you get a couple of bits like a profile background, avatar icon etc. of varying rarity. You can keep or sell those, too.

The badge then goes on your Steam profile, and you get XP towards your arbitrary Steam Level.

So, yeah... unless you're obsessed with e-peen just get all the drops you can by leaving the games running while you're making dinner or whatever, and sell 'em on.

Manged to buy "Papers, Please" using money entirely from selling cards, and also well on the way into a hefty discount for Space Hulk (once I hear some feedback on today's release). :)

Excuse my downright ignorance but what is this Steam Trading card thing you peoples go on about?

Seriously need to play some games on the weekend! :D
