the amount of fat people in the world would drop by ~300 million
I doubt any significant war would kick off. In the short term Russia would lay claim to some of the US interests around the world and China expand its borders somewhat.
In the longer terms I suspect the EU would become splintered with some parts aligned with Russia (probably through subversive influence) and others in an almost limbo state loosely aligned with both us and Russia. Its likely we'd eventually have to prop up Israel with those parts of the middle east probably reverting to something not completely unlike the days of the British Mandate with other nearby areas coming under (more) Russian influence.

3. Heavy Research into what exactly happened to the U.S.
4. Heavy Research into how to stop them form coming back if coming back is possible.
5. Peace Reigns due to the world banding together to stop the return of the U.S. if successful. Otherwise WWIII comes about upon the U.S.'s return as the rest of the world tries to figure out to blame for the U.S.'s return.

I'm not sure you've thought this through. If the U.S. disappears so will it's population therefore the World population would take a rather drastic hit and it would take all of us "working overtime" to balance things out again!
