Samsung 840 EVO ready to pre-order at OcUK!!

What Gibbo is saying is that he ordered the next batch from Sansung at a wholesale price of approx. £134 but then accidentally put that price into the OcUK website without adding their margin on :o

I'm pretty sure the next batch which come in will not be sold at cost price, so I wouldn't hold off ordering on that expectation.

Correct, the price shall remain at £150 or higher, the price I entered was the price OcUK pay, our cost.

So we make £12.49 (exc. vat) per unit, less if you have free shipping.

I see, I paid the correct price in that case, or slightly less (would have to check)

Anyway my drive is on my desk and going into my laptop any moment now :D

Cloned it last night!!

Good to hear we didn't lose out for ordering early.

Thanks for the explanation (and also a little insight into how much you make on these things ! ;) )

Hmmmm, does it really cost 134 to purchase stock of this drive in the UK? Looking at prices of this drive in other European countries they are selling it under this amount. I wonder how they manage to make any money at all  Maybe I just misread the last couple of posts

anyone got this installed? As I cant seem to find the RAPID mode Icon

I have it installed and working.

You need Samsung Magician 4.2 (check that you don't have an earlier version - if you installed Samsung Magician from the disk it's probably not 4.2).

Rapid mode will then be in the left hand menu of Samsung Magician under the "Advanced Feature" sub menu.

Sometimes different regions have different prices.

Samsung might be able to make more money in some regions compared to others.

Just the way it works and how competitive each relevant market is, hence why cross-border selling can be highly frowned upon.

My drive is now in my new laptop, is really fast, night and day to a 5,400rpm as you would expect really, less heat and weight :D

Happy customer!

in Samsung Magician my drive is showing as "in Frozen state" ... Doesn't seem to want to clone using the Samsung Data Migration tool either.

Samsung support website doesn't even have the model numbers in the drop down yet.

**** poor experience with Samsung so far.

Reading up a little of "frozen state" I found posts that say if you only connect the SSD while windows is running (Data and Power cable) it should reset and allow you to work with it. Do a google for Samsung SSD Frozen... It seems to be common on the 830 and 840's

Mine wouldnt come out of Frozen mode, managed to boot into the Samsung Secure Erase USB utility and un-freeze it from there.

I wanted to see if the Samsung Data Migration would migrate my 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 to the new 840 Evo but it just errors at the end (hence me trying a secure erase above) but it looks its never going to work.

Rebuild tomorrow it is then :)

I always use True Image for my drive backup and migration.
the boot CD version is very reliable, or has been for me. It's quick, allows resizing of partitions as restored.

Decided just to do a fresh install. Got Magician 4.2 installed and RAPID mode enabled, benchmarks obviously doubled so quite impressed.

Should I be worried that Samsung Magician sees my 250GB EVO as non genuine LOL

Might be because of Magician 4.2 its a BETA although mine shows as genuine

Got my 250 Evo today :)
Replaced a 256GB 830 in my work laptop.

Very simple process - Connected the new drive via ESATA and booted to True Image. Quick clone disk which was done in 5 minutes tops.
Swap the drives in the laptop and job done.

Speeds are great. I see an improvement in write against the 830 of course and the scores when running RAPID on it are brilliant. Not checked to see if it seems to make any real world difference yet but as I use SQL, Visual Studio and Photoshop on this laptop I should be able to tell if it feels different during the week.

So far very happy. Now where is my 1TB version? I do hope there are no more delays.
