The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Yep, well that's what the guys in Jessops said (did not buy from there). Like I said, I'm no expert and I'm willing to learn. So for my camera, which would you recommend so I'm able to get very close in ?

I did think it would be fractionally closer and faster when I got mine, I'm not dissapointed though, it's a great lens and it's excellent for portraits too!

I will get a set of extension tubes for mine when I can be bothered :)

Traitor !

/ahem.

<3 you too Mr Ray :D

:D

Everyone has too much money. I demand someone buy me the 24-70mkII so I don't have to save.

Hehe, I'd love a MkII but not until the prices drop...its just too much money vs the gain for me. The only thing that annoyed me at first with the MkI is the weight, but I got over that :p

35L next month from B&H though  now THAT will be special

I should mention I got the Sigma for £500 from TP. Will be selling my 85mm 1.8 Canon to fund it, hopefully the upgrade will cost me £240 or thereabouts :)

I'm in love already

Nice lens, I wish the 18-35 was available for Nikon already. I have the money burning a hole in my pocket :(

Also going to have to rent something for a wedding Saturday.

Well here's my collection of lenses taken with my Lumia 920... The macro lens is good but I expected it to get closer than I've been able to. Somewhat disappointed with it if I'm truthful. It's probably my lack of experience with it though.

As for the basic 55-250mm I'm really impressed for the price. Pictures are very good quality but again I'm only shooting with auto and not messing around with settings as I really have no idea what's what

RE: your 100L not being so close when in macro.. Look at extension tubes (no glass just air). I use some on my 55-250 and get some amazingly close up macros, just beware are the super mini depth of field in them.

What are these extension tubes your on about mate ? I'm a total n00b when it comes to this sort of stuff :D

They're just metal/plastic tubes that extend the distance from the sensor to the lens. More expensive models will have autofocus although it's not really needed.

By increasing the distance between lens and sensor it reduces the minimum focus distance, meaning you can get increased magnification. However you can't focus to infinity whilst using them.

Thank you for the info pal. Could you fire me of a url with both auto focus and manual focus models ? I've been using that place in Hong Kong. Wow their delivery service is fast

They look very similar to the Polaroid branded ones I got from amazon at 3x the price. The way Polaroid seems to be used to re-brand cheap products these days I wouldn't surprise me if they are the same
