The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Sitting waiting on me when I got home yesterday.

Not as great as some of the lens you guys are using but this is a way better than my 70quid 70-300 Tamron

Yeah, those are valid uses! For me, my 10-22mm is more suitable but it would be interesting to see what kind of DOF you can get at 16mm!

That being said, I would probably prefer that 14mm F2.8 :E

im looking at 70D, but cant see it out anywhere

Oh it is out!

how do you find it? is it worth the extra over the 7D?

I dont a camera at all yet and have been using the 400D my GF has for pics :(

Someone mentioned they ordered it in the pics thread, gave Calumet a buzz and collected it on my lunch break.

It'll get it's first use tomorrow so I'll give more feedback then :) First impressions are good though, definitely worth it over the 7D for general use.

Very interested in some first hand impressions of the 70D, especially with regards to sensor performance and the new AF.

ah nice, that would be really useful

i was apprehensive abbout buying the 7d as it is pretty old now, im itching to try my 100mm L macro on something with a few more MP and ISO than the 400D

The only compelling case to buy a 7D over a 70D is if you needed proper weather sealing and finer control over AF servo for moving objects, so it's still the Motorsport photographers weapon of choice but I think overall a 70D is worth the extra, EOS remote is bloody cool.

EOS remote is nowhere near as good as you'd think...

It's a bit laggy, depending on what you're shooting, but when I tried shooting birds, by the time they'd flitted into view, you'd seen it on your device screen, hit the shutter, it had sent the command back to the camera, the bird had flitted out of view. This was with a feeder. In the end, I sat back about 4m from the camera and looked at the birds coming in. All it really did was give me a way to shoot remotely, but I still had to be looking at the target. Nothing that I couldn't have done with a wireless remote. Focus is also through LiveView, with EOS remote, which is frankly awful. Oh, and a full battery, lasted about 2 hours on the camera shooting wirelessly with EOS Remote.

Just my experience of course, but I really didn't think much of it.

i would be using this too, thats a shame if everyone finds this, i would be using it for exactly the same function as you

70D will oblitorate the 6D in live view AF performance, so that's not a worry. Battery is to be expected really. Didn't find lag to be an issue.

The ability to pull images off the camera without a laptop, straight to your phone will also be a very useful feature.
