Hi guys

Some life coaching needed :p. Well I just want to gauge some opinions really.

I have been living in a rented flat for just over a year now and it has been a lovely place to live and we have never really been disturbed or bothered by anyone or any neighbours.

However, since last Friday,we can suddenly hear our direct neighbour's ( to the side of us) TV VERY loudly, almost throughout our whole flat! I am at a loss as to why we haven't heard a peep out of them for a year and now suddenly we can hear their TV on at most times of the day VERY loudly.

The thing is, i am a bit wary about saying anything as i don't know how loud our TV sounds to them ( although they haven't said anything in the year+ that we have lived here). We have also never spoken to them but i am pretty sure it is an older/elderly lady living there. I just find it strange as to why it is all of a sudden incredibly loud!

We have a housing chairman/manager who is also a resident and i am not sure whether to contact him first, or contact the neighbour.

I also don't know whether it would be best to just knock on the door and chat to her ( but that might put her on the spot) or to put a polite letter outlining our concerns in her mailbox.

We really love living here so the last thing we want is any bad blood between neighbours and ourselves but it is starting to really get on our nerves.

So OCUK , WHAT DO!

Personally I'd appreciate it if my neighbor told me when I was making too much noise, i'd hate to think I was making their life miserable.

Me too! This is one of the reasons i am worried about saying anything though, because for all i know, our TV might sound the same through their flat ( although i doubt it as it isn't near the wall and we can here their new found loudness over our TV to a certain extent).

I would hope that if our TV or music was too loud someone would say.

Maybe they used to have the TV on a stand, now they've fixed it to the wall? That would certainly increase the noise level.

Quite possibly. Maybe it is resonating through the adjoining wall or something.

Either that or their hearing aid is in for repair!

I experienced an issue similar to this and in the end the only resolution was to move. I didn't move directly because of it but it was certainly a factor.

In these situations once you are aware of something that annoys you it's very difficult to switch off and suddenly a small issue becomes much larger.

Knock on the door
/boxing stance engage
knock her out and whilst she's down for the count run inside and smash her tv in?

or just knock on and be polite about the noise levels

It is such a shame as we haven't heard hardly a peep out of anyone for over a year! Then from Friday, BOOM, loud TV.

Don't feel embarrassed and just go and have a chat with her. There is probably a silly reason for the loud volume that can be sorted very quickly.

Funnily enough I had a similar experience, we wasn't aware of anything but then it slowly got out of hand. This guy was a lonely **** head though so was completely unreasonable, I wouldn't expect most people to behave in that way though.
