Just means the HD 7970 will replace the HD 7950.

AMD launch one new card and the existing ones move down the pecking order.

Thinking about it if there is only going to be one new card, then the gap between the HD 7970 and the new HD 9970 is not likely to be that big or there would have been two new cards.

So maybe Gibbo has let something slip.:D:D:D

Maybe they are releasing 2 new cards.

9970 = Titan for ~£420-£470
9950 = GTX780 for ~£350-£370
7970 = £300
7950 = £230

So the 79x0 cards stay at roughly current prices but the 2 new 99x0 cards come it at the original 79x0 release prices.

I just bought a GTX780 for £420, so I hope the 99x0 cards don't make me regret what I think is a great deal. :)

I think there will be a bigger price difference between the new 99xx card and the 79xx cards due to lower yields for the new larger chip.
 
Why do people demand that AMD cards be so much cheaper than Nvidia cards? Maybe AMD needs to increase its prices to move away from this image.

They tried this with HD 7990 and look how that worked out. :)

The highend GPU has typically come in at around £400 give or take a score. When Nvidia released Titan and GTX780 AMD did not have serious single GPU competition and history show Nvidia are prone to increase prices to extortionate levels in these circumstances. If AMD release 99x0 cards that are within ~10% (+ or -) of Titan performance it will mean a price war, so AMD must release at competitive prices.

Nvidias current GTX780 and Titan pricing allows AMD a fair bit of leeway to increase prices and still beat Nvidia pricing. They could concievably release 99x0 at £600 if it is as fast or faster than Titan. If anyone comlains that AMD are pricing it too high we can point at Titan and laugh.

Though, I do find it ironic that Nvidia can get away with extorionate pricing much easoer than AMD can.
